Department
The Auditor-Controller is an elected official who provides the County of Monterey with financial leadership and expert advice on a wide range of fiscal matters and advocates financial integrity and accountability in all County business practices. The department consists of five divisions: Administration, Systems, General Accounting, Internal Audit, and Disbursements (Accounts Payable, Payroll, and Property Tax).
Position Summary
Under direction, independently performs complex payroll functions within the AuditorController's Office requiring knowledge in specialized areas that impact payroll and employee benefits; and performs other related work as required.
The Eligible List established by this recruitment process may be used County-wide to fill current and future vacancies on a regular full-time, part-time, or temporary basis.
Flexible staffing: This classification is part of a flexible series. Incumbents appointed at the lower level of the career series may be promoted up to the higher level of the career series subject to their meeting the employment standards for the higher class and a recommendation for their promotion by the appointing authority.
The knowledge, skills and abilities listed above may be acquired through various types of experience, education or training, typically:
One year of experience as a Senior Account Clerk in the County of Monterey performing payroll related duties
OR
One year of experience in the processing of payroll for a government agency or private firm
OR
Completion of eighteen (18) semester units of college-level coursework in accounting, finance or other related field.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
The required conditions of employment include, but are not limited to the following:

Successfully complete a background check to include fingerprinting

Possess and maintain a valid California Class C driver’s license or the ability to provide suitable transportation that is approved by the appointing authority

Be available to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and during times of disaster and/or emergency.
