POS System Configuration & Maintenance
- Administer and configure the POS software (e.g., Square, Toast, Lightspeed, NCR Aloha, Micros, or a custom system) to meet business requirements.
- Enable, disable, and customize buttons, menus, and workflows within the POS interface based on store, department, or user role needs.
- Accurately add, update, and manage all saleable items, products, modifiers, and pricing within the system.
- Set up and manage user roles, permissions, and access levels (e.g., cashier, manager, admin).
Menu & Item Management
- Collaborate with product, marketing, and procurement teams to implement new menu items, seasonal offerings, or promotions into the POS system.
- Ensure accurate pricing, tax application, and PLU/SKU management for all items.
- Archive or hide discontinued items to keep the interface clean and efficient.
Operational Support & Troubleshooting
- Serve as the first point of contact for POS-related issues from staff, providing timely troubleshooting and resolution.
- Test new configurations and updates in a controlled environment before deploying to live systems.
- Create and maintain clear documentation of POS configurations, item builds, and procedures.
Training & Communication
- Train front-line staff and managers on new POS features, button layouts, and item lookup procedures.
- Communicate system changes and updates effectively to all relevant teams.
System Integration Support
- Work with vendors or IT teams to ensure the POS integrates smoothly with other systems (e.g., inventory management, accounting software, CRM if applicable).
- Assist with basic reporting by ensuring data captured at the POS is structured correctly.
Qualifications
Required:
- Proven experience (1-2+ years) in administering, configuring, or providing advanced support for a major Point of Sale (POS) system.
- High technical aptitude with strong problem-solving skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage complex menu structures and system settings.
- Ability to translate business requests (e.g., "launch a new combo meal") into precise technical configurations in the POS.
- Strong communication skills to train non-technical staff and collaborate with different departments.
Preferred:
- Experience in a retail, hospitality, or restaurant environment.
- Specific certification or advanced training in a common POS platform (e.g., Toast Back Office, Square Dashboard, Aloha Configuration).
- Basic understanding of inventory management principles.
- Experience with light reporting or data extraction from POS systems
