Accountant / Bookkeeper (UK Market Specialist)
We are hiring an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper with in-depth knowledge of the UK market to manage accounting, VAT, payroll, and tax compliance for our UK clients. The ideal candidate will handle end-to-end bookkeeping, prepare and submit VAT/payroll returns, produce management accounts, and ensure full compliance with HMRC requirements.
Key Responsibilities
VAT & Tax Compliance
- Register, manage, and deregister companies for various VAT schemes (Standard, Cash Accounting, Flat Rate, Marginal).
- Prepare, reconcile, and submit quarterly VAT returns (zero-rated, standard-rated, imports/exports, acquisitions).
- Reconcile VAT control accounts, track deadlines, and respond to HMRC queries.
- Draft corporation tax calculations and returns.
- Familiarity with VTT Final Accounts is preferred.
Bookkeeping & Accounting
- Maintain sales/purchase ledgers, process invoices, payments, and credit notes.
- Perform bank, petty cash, and expense reconciliations.
- Reconcile debtors, creditors, VAT, PAYE, and other control accounts.
- Post journals, accruals, prepayments, and maintain fixed asset registers.
- Produce trial balance, draft accounts, and monthly management accounts.
- Run year-end procedures in Sage.
Payroll Management
- Manage monthly payroll, employer registrations, and employee onboarding.
- Process salaries, payslips, statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP), and BACS transfers.
- Update records for new starters and leavers, ensure RTI compliance (FPS, EPS).
- Handle year-end payroll tasks including P45s and P60s.
- Experience with Moneysoft Payroll is an advantage.
Client Communication & Administration
- Liaise with clients to collect required documents and provide support.
- Maintain and update client records on CRM systems (preferably Bright Manager).
- Ensure accurate data processing and compliance with company procedures.
Skills & Requirements
- Proficient in Sage 50 Accounts, Sage 50 Payroll, QuickBooks, Xero, Excel, VTT Final Accounts, and payroll software (Moneysoft preferred).
- Strong knowledge of UK VAT, PAYE, and payroll legislation.
- Excellent reconciliation, reporting, and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and client relationship management skills.
- Experience with Bright Manager CRM is a plus.
