Preschool Teacher in Sugar Land, TX

POSITION SUMMARY

The Preschool Teacher (ages 6 weeks–6 years old) is responsible for creating and maintaining a calm, prepared environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of children. The teacher guides children using Montessori principles - our school's chosen teaching methodology - while ensuring safety, supervision, and compliance with Texas DFPS Child Care Licensing standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create and maintain a prepared Montessori classroom for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years
• Guide children’s learning via observation, individual lessons, small-group activities
• Support independence, concentration, and respectful behavior using positive guidance
• Provide constant supervision and maintain DFPS-required child-to-teacher ratios
• Ensure classroom materials and equipment are safe, clean, and well-maintained
• Support daily routines including arrival, dismissal, meals, outdoor play, and rest time
• Assist with toileting and hygiene routines as needed
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with families
• Maintain confidentiality of child and family information
• Report incidents, injuries, or concerns promptly to the Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 6 years
• Ability to meet DFPS employment and training requirements
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively engage with children

Preferred:

• Montessori training or certification (AMI, AMS, or equivalent) is a PLUS!
• Early Childhood Education coursework or degree
• Prior experience in a Montessori or child-centered classroom

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Active classroom setting with frequent standing, bending, and lifting
• Indoor and outdoor supervision in varying weather conditions
• Reports to the Director of the school
