Principal Materials Specialist

Job Overview

The Principal Materials Specialist is responsible for overseeing day to day warehouse, logistics, and material coordination activities at Abu Dhabi Marine Base to ensure safe, efficient, and timely support to project operations. The role manages end to end material handling-including receiving, storage, issuing, preservation, transportation, and offshore load outs-while ensuring full compliance with HSE and quality procedures.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, oversee, and execute daily warehouse and material handling operations, including receiving, storing, issuing, picking, locating, packing, and shipping of materials to support construction, fabrication, and offshore requirements.
  • Coordinate transportation and logistics, including material movements to/from marine bases, wharves, offshore locations, and fabrication yards; track all shipments and prepare accurate load out lists and vessel documentation.
  • Manage inventory and materials handling, ensuring proper storage, preservation, and control of all project materials, including bulk supplies required for vessel and offshore operations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and guide Materials Management Specialists, warehouse teams, and logistics personnel, ensuring adherence to project priorities, quality requirements, and safety standards.
  • Ensure full compliance with OS&D (Overages, Shortages & Damages) and SLOD (Stolen, Lost, or Damaged) procedures, managing timely identification, reporting, documentation, and closure of discrepancies.
  • Ensure all Unifi processes are followed, conduct internal audits, and support ongoing compliance with materials management procedures and system workflows.
  • Liaise with Material Controllers to coordinate requisitions, BOM (Bill of Materials) updates, allocations, material readiness, and alignment with construction and fabrication schedules.
  • Review and support project setup as it relates to Materials Management, ensuring systems, processes, and tools are properly implemented from project initiation.
  • Act as a Key Super User for Materials Management systems such as Smart Materials, including troubleshooting of Site, Engineering, and Procurement modules.
  • Work with EDMS systems (iDocs) to ensure all receiving, issuing, and logistics documentations are accurate, traceable, and properly filed.
  • Ensure all receiving and issuing logs are updated, with correct system postings and full documentation control.
  • Collaborate with Preservation and Materials Coordinators to ensure materials are stored and preserved according to project procedures and vendor recommendations.
  • Lead or support Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) material management activities as required by project scope.
  • Identify and implement improvements across the end to end Materials Management lifecycle, including process, workflow, and system enhancements.
  • Support and drive continuous improvement by challenging existing processes, identifying gaps, and assisting the team in implementing enhancements.
  • Prepare and issue daily, weekly, and monthly materials reports, including forecasting, status summaries, surplus tracking, and logistics updates for the Project Management Team and discipline leads.
  • Analyze materials forecasts and soft allocations to ensure materials are available at the right time and location, including fabrication yards and construction sites.
  • Manage surplus materials processes, including identification, control, reconciliation, and final disposition.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE and QHSES requirements, promoting safe operations in warehouses, laydown yards, marine bases, and logistics areas.
  • Work in both home office and field locations, providing consistent Materials Management support across project phases.
  • Conduct internal audits and monitor KPI performance, implementing corrective action plans where necessary to improve quality, cost, delivery, and communication metrics.
  • Coordinate with Expeditors, Logistics, Field Engineers, QA/QC, and other project stakeholders to maintain seamless material flow and avoid schedule delays.
  • Participate in tool or process development projects, supporting assessments and contributing to improvement initiatives.
Essential Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in Supply Chain Management or a relevant discipline, or HSD/GED/IGCSE with ten (10) years of relevant experience.
  • Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of related experience in Materials Management, ideally across onshore/offshore or marine logistics environments.
  • Extensive functional, business, industry, and leadership expertise in project materials control, warehouse operations, and logistics.
  • Strong functional knowledge of Materials Management Systems such as Smart Materials (including Engineering, Procurement, and Site Modules).
  • Thorough understanding of receiving, storage, preservation, stock control, issuing processes, and inventory reconciliation.
  • Exceptional leadership qualities, communication skills, and experience mentoring multidisciplinary teams.
