Procurement Engineer (Construction) -
The Procurement Engineer (Construction) is responsible for managing the end-to-end procurement cycle for materials, equipment, and subcontracted services With 7–10 years of experience, the role ensures timely sourcing, cost optimization, vendor management, and compliance with project specifications to support smooth project execution.
1. Procurement Planning & Strategy
- Develop and implement procurement plans based on project schedules and material requirements.
- Identify long-lead items and ensure early procurement to avoid delays.
- Analyze market trends and propose cost-saving strategies without compromising quality.
2. Vendor Sourcing & Evaluation
- Identify, qualify, and maintain a reliable vendor/subcontractor database.
- Conduct supplier evaluations based on capability, pricing, lead time, and quality.
- Establish long-term relationships with key suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.
3. RFQs, Quotations & Negotiation
- Prepare and issue RFQs with detailed specifications, drawings, and BOQs.
- Evaluate technical and commercial offers, ensuring compliance with project requirements.
- Lead negotiations to achieve competitive pricing, optimized payment terms, and delivery schedules.
4. Purchase Orders & Contracting
- Prepare and issue Purchase Orders (POs), subcontract agreements, and procurement contracts.
- Ensure accuracy in quantities, specifications, delivery terms, and contract conditions.
- Coordinate with legal and finance teams for contract approvals when required.
5. Coordination with Project Teams
- Collaborate with project managers, site engineers, QS, planning, and design teams to confirm procurement needs.
- Resolve technical queries with consultants and suppliers.
- Coordinate material approvals, samples, and technical submittals.
6. Logistics, Delivery & Expediting
- Monitor order status and follow up with vendors to ensure timely delivery.
- Coordinate with logistics teams for customs clearance, transport, and site offloading.
- Manage delays, shortages, or quality issues and arrange replacements or corrective actions.
7. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all procured materials comply with project specifications, standards, and approved submittals.
- Conduct supplier audits and ensure adherence to QA/QC requirements.
- Maintain accurate procurement records and documentation for audits and project handover.
8. Cost Control & Reporting
- Maintain cost tracking sheets and support budget monitoring.
- Review and verify supplier invoices and variations.
- Prepare weekly/monthly procurement status reports and dashboards.
Skills & QualificationsTechnical Skills
- Strong knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and subcontracting (civil/MEP/fit-out depending on role).
- Proficiency in procurement software, ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.), and MS Office.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications.
- Solid understanding of supply chain management and commercial contracts.

Education & Experience

- Proven experience handling major materials, equipment procurement, and subcontracting packages.
- Gulf/MEP/high-rise/infrastructure experience is a plus (customizable).
