JOB SUMMARY

Coordinates the procurement and distribution of materials, parts, equipment, and supplies, ensuring timely delivery and effective cost management. Responsible for proper delivery of our product as well as proper use of planning tools to perform position functions. Issues RFQ's and performs cost evaluations. Performs price and lead time negotiations with suppliers. Generates and tracks Purchase Orders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Coordinates activities related to procurement of a commodity beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Analyzes the requirements of the commodity, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date commodity is needed.
  • Issues purchase orders/contracts that comply with company and government regulations; Ensures delivery, price, and quality meet expectations. Reviews quality problems with engineering personnel and directs action required to correct defects.
  • Coordinates appropriate methods needed to distribute commodity in a cost-effective manner; ensures accurate retention of records.

  • Investigates potential suppliers to determine if they meet the specified requirements. Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested commodity/services; Participates along with the Team Leader in supplier negotiations; Advises team members or management on the appropriate supplier to be used.
  • Plans for the purchase of special engineering projects and coordinates with suppliers to ensure timely and cost effective delivery of completed product.
  • Conducts periodic and special surveys of supplier’s facilities and manufacturing processes to determine adequacy and capability of quality control and ability to comply with engineering and quality specifications.
  • Prepares periodic and special reports concerning team activities, corrective action requirements as it relates to suppliers and their quality systems, schedules, and rejected items.
  • May travel occasionally, primarily in the local area.
  • Supervisory Responsibility: Provides mentoring and direction to less experienced employees.
  • Takes on new responsibilities as required.


EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

A bachelor's degree or equivalent and at least 3-5 years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience plus minimum experience of two years in a manufacturing and assembly production environment. Knowledge of ERP, planning, scheduling, budgeting and performance measurement systems and their application is required. Requires manufacturing knowledge and shop order planning. Must demonstrate complete understanding and application of planning concepts and principles to production tasks. Strong analytical skills required for developing efficient systems and methods to identify and plan tasks. CPM and APICS certification preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. Office and travel have moderate noise levels. Machine/Product demonstrations and customer visits can have loud noise levels.

Noise levels may be extreme and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is provided and usage is driven by customer requirements. Other required PPE includes, but is not limited to, steel toe boots, hardhat and safety glasses. Customer working environments can be extreme in regards to height, confined space, physical requirements and hazards.
