Job Description Summary
The purpose of the Product Owner is the overall ownership for a single product which contains 1-2 features, journeys or technology components. They are typically a Team Lead (containing 1-2 Feature or Component Teams), reporting into the Lab Lead. This role is responsible to oversee the release of incremental value within a single product feature or technology component, with the primary aim of delivering value to customers and stakeholders by ensuring the team focuses on the right priorities
Role responsibilities:
- Supports development of Team OKRs and provides product performance and benefits realisation data
- Defines user-stories at Team level to meet customer needs
- Works with Customer Journey Manager to analyse user stories for customer journey improvements
- Provides input into overall Product vision and Product roadmap
- Prioritises, refines and manages Team Product backlog
- Accountable for Product change governance (e.g., CMIA / SPFIA) and Business Readiness activities (e.g., training and comms, testing and readiness for implementation) for their respective features, journeys or technology components. Note: PO’s are accountable but activities to be delivered by the whole ‘team’.
- Investigates incidents and develops contingency plans
- Implements development frameworks for their area, coach and mentor others in the organisation
- Works with Integrators when change is particularly large
Additional responsibilities for Technical Team Product Owners:
- Owns and manages the product backlog for a Group-wide technology asset Develops technical design for the product
- Manages all product risk
- Defines the segmentation and supplier strategy
- Environment Planning and other technical activities

About the Opportunity
As a Product Owner in the Authorization Lab, you will own the product vision, roadmap, and backlog for key authorization capabilities — spanning customer, colleague, and service authorization journeys. Your goal is to deliver incremental value by aligning customer needs, regulatory requirements, platform strategy, and technical feasibility.
You will ensure the team is always focused on delivering the highest-value outcomes while maintaining strong governance, readiness, and adoption across the enterprise.
Key Responsibilities
Backlog Ownership & Delivery

Plan and Prioritize the Authorization Lab feature backlog, ensuring clarity, value, and feasibility.

Write high-quality user stories and acceptance criteria for authorization journeys, policy management, entitlements, and platform services.

Collaborate with engineering and architecture to break down complex authorization capabilities into incremental, releasable value.
Stakeholder & Journey Alignment

Partner with journey teams, platform teams, security and risk stakeholders to understand authorization requirements and design secure, scalable patterns.

Analyse user journeys and platform adoption to identify opportunities for simplification, reusability, and security enhancements.
Capability Development

Contribute to improving product practices within the Identity & Authentication Platform.

Mentor peers and promote a culture of learning, innovation, and engineering alignment within the Authorization Lab.
