PROGRAMMING ASSOCIATE POSITION

Hours: Full-time 37.5 hours per week. Monday through Friday - 10AM to 6PM
Occasional Saturdays. Outreach as required.

Wages: $20.00/hour
Paid biweekly via direct deposit
Optional participation in medical and dental benefits and/or retirement plan

Position Overview
Chester Springs Library is looking for a creative, self-starting individual to plan, develop, and lead engaging,
literacy-based, and educational programs for children from birth through teen years, including story times,
STEM classes, craft activities, summer reading, and community engagement. This person will collaborate
with the Library Director to promote these activities to the community through the library’s social media,
website, electronic events calendar, newsletter, and printed material. Additionally, the candidate will
provide high-quality, welcoming customer service at the circulation desk and assist with general library
duties on a rotating basis.

Programming responsibilities:

 Attend monthly Youth Services meetings and training courses as required.
 Plan and deliver story times for children and families each week.
 Create workshops, classes, and STEM events for school age students.
 Coordinate teen volunteers and develop teen programs.
 Organize the Summer Reading program.
 Partners with local homeschool groups, schools, and community organizations.
 Data entry of event information for the library’s electronic calendar.
 Keep monthly statistics of program attendance.
 Marketing of programs and events via social media and online sources.
 Creating book displays and bulletin boards.
 Managing the children’s supplies and program space.

Circulation and customer service responsibilities on a rotating basis:

 Opening and closing procedures
 Check-ins, check-outs
 Placing holds
 Creating library cards
 Provide Reader's Advisory
 Answering general reference questions
 Shelving, straightening books

Preferred qualifications:

 College degree or relevant skills and experience
 Knowledge of program planning and facilitating children’s events
 Ability and desire to work with the public
 Capable of using Microsoft Office programs
 Proficient in Internet and email use
 Knowledge of web design or website maintenance
 Familiarity with child development and child safety

Physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation:

 Must be able to lift, push, and move objects that weigh up to 30 pounds
 Required to stoop, crouch, reach, sit, kneel, etc.
 Able to manage a group of active children

About Chester Springs Library
Chester Springs Library is in West Pikeland Township, in the picturesque Village of Historic Yellow
Springs. The library’s mission is to serve the residents of the area by making readily available a variety of
materials, resources, and programs to promote education, learning, and recreation both virtually and in
person.

Library positions require the following criminal background and child abuse clearances before
employment begins:

 Report of Criminal History from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP)
 Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse)
 Fingerprint based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police

or its authorized agent (FBI)
