Position Summary
The Project Accountant supports Project Directors and Project Managers within an assigned operational POD by managing project financials, billing processes, compliance documentation, and accounts receivable activities throughout the project lifecycle.
This role ensures accurate job setup, billing execution, cost tracking, and financial reporting in Acumatica while maintaining alignment with contractual requirements and company standards. The Project Accountant plays a critical role in supporting project profitability, maintaining financial accuracy, and ensuring healthy cash flow from contract execution through project closeout.
Responsibilities

Prepare and manage project billings including schedules of values (SOVs), invoice generation, lien waivers, and supporting documentation.

Submit billing through customer portals and ensure compliance with contract and owner requirements.

Coordinate billing revisions and documentation updates as project conditions evolve.

Set up new projects in Acumatica upon contract approval.

Verify contract details between Salesforce, executed agreements, and internal documentation.

Enter and maintain project budgets, billing terms, retention percentages, tax details, bonding information, and compliance documentation.

Maintain POD financial tracking tools including cost-to-complete (C2C) summaries.

Support weekly Work-In-Progress (WIP) reporting and financial updates.

Update Acumatica and internal trackers to ensure cost, billing, and budget accuracy.

Support change order execution and documentation management.

Maintain required compliance documentation, lien waivers, and bonding information.

Ensure project files meet contractual and customer documentation requirements.

Partner with Project Directors to monitor and follow up on outstanding receivables.

Maintain AR communication and documentation.

Assist with forecasting expected collections and supporting project cash flow.

Process vendor payment requests aligned with project progress.

Coordinate with Project Managers and Finance to ensure accurate and timely vendor payments.

Participate in contract reviews, WIP meetings, and recurring POD financial meetings.

Collaborate closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, and Finance teams.

Proactively identify financial risks, billing issues, or compliance concerns.

Perform related duties within the scope of the role as needed to support business operations.
Skills and Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field preferred

35 years of project accounting or construction accounting experience preferred

Strong understanding of construction billing, schedules of values (SOVs), retention, and WIP reporting

High attention to detail and financial accuracy

Proficiency with accounting systems (Acumatica strongly preferred)

Strong spreadsheet and financial tracking skills

Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously

Clear written and verbal communication skills
