Project Support Officer with UNEP

Context

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global authority on environmental issues, driving the international agenda and promoting sustainable development across the UN system. This assignment is part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) Seagrass Ecosystem Services Project, implemented through the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) Abu Dhabi Office. The project aims to protect and sustainably manage seagrass ecosystems, which are critical for biodiversity, climate resilience, and coastal livelihoods. Despite their ecological importance, seagrass meadows are rapidly declining and underrecognized. The project engages governments, researchers, civil society, and communities to strengthen policy, build scientific knowledge, and promote inclusive communication strategies.

Description of Duties

  • Update the Dugong & Seagrass Hub website with reports and multimedia content.
  • Coordinate with developers on website improvements and new sections.
  • Maintain country pages with current project information.
  • Summarize findings from project reports to support communication materials.
  • Draft articles and features highlighting conservation efforts.
  • Prepare social media content and monitor engagement.
  • Support logistics and communications for expert meetings and outreach events.
  • Assist with planning and execution of project workshops and sessions.

Profile Requirements

  • Minimum 1 month of relevant experience in communications or environmental programs.
  • Strong writing, editing, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with marine/coastal content and development communications preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic digital tools; familiarity with databases is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Science, or Conservation.
  • Fluent in English; working knowledge of Arabic preferred.
