Duties

  • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including patient history, mental status examinations, and diagnostic evaluations using ICD-10 coding standards.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy, and behavioral interventions.
  • Prescribe medications such as antidepressants, antipsychotics, and mood stabilizers while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Manage acute psychiatric episodes by providing crisis intervention, triage services, and emergency stabilization in collaboration with hospital or emergency room teams.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or eClinicalWorks, maintaining HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • Educate patients and their families on mental health conditions, medication usage, and wellness strategies through health coaching and counseling sessions.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including primary care providers, social workers, and specialists to coordinate comprehensive care plans for patients across outpatient, inpatient, or assisted living settings.

Requirements

  • Valid state licensure as a Nurse Practitioner with certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health (PMHNP-BC or equivalent).
  • Proven experience working with diverse populations including children, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those in hospice & palliative medicine.
  • Strong knowledge of psychopharmacology, ICD-10 coding standards, CPT coding for procedures, and medical documentation best practices.
  • Experience utilizing EMR/EHR
  • Ability to perform comprehensive physical examinations and vital signs assessment relevant to psychiatric care.
  • Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques including de-escalation strategies and acute pain management protocols.
  • Excellent communication skills to educate patients on treatment plans while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
