Job Description – Purchase Manager manufacuring
Reports To: Director / General Manager
Position Overview
The Purchase Manager is responsible for planning, sourcing, negotiating, and procuring raw materials, machine spares, consumables, and services required for smooth operations of the manufacturing unit. The role ensures cost-effective purchasing while maintaining quality, timely delivery, and vendor relationship management.
Key Responsibilities
- Procurement Planning & Strategy
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with production requirements.
- Forecast material requirements in coordination with Production, Quality, and Stores teams.
- Ensure availability of materials without overstocking.
- Vendor Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and approve new vendors and suppliers.
- Maintain strong relationships with existing vendors for long-term partnerships.
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing for cost-effectiveness.
- Purchasing Operations
- Prepare and process purchase orders (POs) and requisitions.
- Track order status, delivery schedules, and resolve supply issues.
- Maintain records of purchases, pricing, and inventory.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and statutory requirements.
- Cost & Quality Control
- Benchmark prices and analyze cost-saving opportunities.
- Coordinate with Quality Control team to ensure materials meet specifications.
- Handle vendor performance evaluations (quality, delivery, price consistency).
- Team Coordination
- Work closely with Accounts for supplier payments.
- Collaborate with Production, Maintenance, and Stores teams for requirements.
- Lead and guide junior purchase executives/officers.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Knowledge of raw materials, consumables, tools, and spares used in CNC/VMC and other manufacturing operations.
- Understanding of supply chain management and procurement processes.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Analytical and problem-solving ability.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management / Mechanical / Industrial Engineering / Commerce.
- MBA in Materials Management (preferred).
- 5–10 years of experience in purchasing/procurement in a manufacturing company.
- Proficiency in ERP / MS Excel / Purchase software.

- Cost savings achieved through effective negotiation.
- On-time delivery of materials.
- Reduction in stockouts or overstocking.
- Vendor performance ratings.
- Compliance with purchase procedures and audit standards.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: ₹16,174.67 - ₹50,000.00 per month
