Purchase Manager Job Description (FMCG Industry)

Reports To: General Manager / Head of Supply Chain
Job Summary:
The Purchase Manager is responsible for developing and executing effective procurement strategies to ensure timely and cost-efficient sourcing of raw materials, packaging materials, consumables, and services required for FMCG operations. The role focuses on vendor management, cost optimization, quality assurance, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to support smooth production and distribution processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with business objectives.
- Identify, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve best price, quality, and delivery terms.
- Ensure timely procurement of raw materials, packaging materials, and consumables to avoid production delays.
- Monitor market trends, competitor pricing, and industry developments to support cost-effective purchasing.
- Establish and maintain long-term supplier relationships and vendor performance evaluation systems.
- Manage procurement budget, control costs, and drive savings initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with production, logistics, quality control, and finance teams for smooth supply chain operations.
- Monitor stock levels, plan purchase schedules, and coordinate with warehouse/inventory teams.
- Prepare and maintain procurement reports, purchase orders, and supplier contracts.
- Resolve vendor issues, disputes, and ensure continuity of supply.
- Implement digital procurement tools, ERP systems, and best practices for process improvement.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- In-depth knowledge of FMCG procurement processes and supply chain management.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with cost consciousness.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, etc.) and MS Office.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field (MBA preferred).
- 7–10 years of procurement experience, with at least 3–5 years in FMCG industry.
- Proven track record in cost optimization and supplier development.

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
