Purchaser / Procurement Officer – FMCG Job Description

A Purchaser in the FMCG sector is responsible for sourcing raw materials, packaging, and finished goods at the best price, quality, and delivery timelines to support smooth production and sales operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source and purchase raw materials, packaging, and FMCG products
  • Identify and evaluate reliable suppliers and vendors
  • Negotiate prices, payment terms, and contracts
  • Ensure timely procurement to avoid stock shortages or overstocking
  • Maintain inventory levels in coordination with warehouse and production teams
  • Monitor market price trends and supplier performance
  • Process purchase orders (POs) and maintain procurement records
  • Ensure quality standards and compliance with company policies
  • Coordinate with finance for invoice verification and payments
  • Develop cost-saving strategies and improve procurement efficiency

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, or related field
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills
  • Good analytical and decision-making ability
  • Knowledge of procurement processes and inventory management
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP) is a plus
  • Proficiency in MS Excel

Experience

  • 2–5 years of experience in procurement (preferably FMCG)
  • Experience in handling vendors and supply chain operations

Working Conditions

  • Office-based role with occasional market/vendor visits
  • Standard working hours (may extend during urgent procurement needs)
