Purchasing Agent

Description:

It is the responsibility of the Purchasing Agent to plan, direct and control the purchasing and inventory planning of select products/components using the principles of lean manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for material planning of components for select commodity groups and other duties related to such materials.
• Reorder materials for the Company’s manufacturing inventory, maintenance repair and operating supplies.
• Process capital expenditure requests.
• Work with freight companies to submit and follow up on freight claims, track lost shipments, and generate parcel (Ocean and Air) insurance plan monthly report.
• Work directly with customs brokers on freight issues.
• Track ocean and air freight cost.
• Perform data entry and update purchasing documentation (file maintenance) as required.
• Assist in backing-up Buyer/Planners and production personnel for subcontract and external processing orders.
• Manage new supplier and material number set-up process.
• Log and scan all Expenditure Requests.
• Manage miscellaneous quotes, vendor performance ratings, and update/keep vendor files (new vendors, ISO Certificates, supplier evaluation reports, etc.)
• Place expense and service purchase orders.
• Provide primary administrative support to production as well as other departments as necessary.
• Participate in special projects and compile reports as necessary.
• Implement and maintain 5S in all materials group work areas and equipment such as storage bins, shelves, racks, material handling and packaging equipment, etc.
• Perform other related duties as necessary.
• Regular and timely attendance.
• Work overtime as needed.

Working Environment:

Office environment in manufacturing facility.

Must adhere to all safety rules in force for the location you are in while performing your job responsibilities. This includes at a customer or supplier location. Must meet requirements for PPE in specific manufacturing areas when you are in those areas including safety shoes and safety glasses.

Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree in Purchasing, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing or Business is preferred.
• Minimum of one (1) year work related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
• Experience with International Purchasing is preferred.
• Experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of ERP software is preferred. SAP experience is a plus.
• Two + years’ experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required.

Certificates and Licenses:

• Completion of APICS or ISM sponsored classes and/or APICS CPIM or ISM CSM/CPSM certification is preferred.

Other Requirements:

• Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills are required.
