ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY


SUMMARY: The Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is currently seeking five registered veterinary technicians or experienced equine handlers with a bachelor’s degree in animal science or Pre-Vet to assist in instruction of equine handling labs. The selected individuals will work under the supervision of Dr. Ondieki Gekara in the Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences.


SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

  • Candidates will provide instruction and support for safety and handling skills to novice students participating in on-campus AVMA equine labs.
  • This includes haltering, leading, grooming, TPR’s, leg bandage and oral medication administration.
  • These labs are held either Friday or Saturday for a total of 8 hours, during all types of outside temperatures.
  • Approximately 15 labs are held each year with 2 student assistants for additional support per lab.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong background in equine handling, restraint, and husbandry

PREFERRED:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Registered Veterinary Technician.
  • B.S. in Animal Science or Pre-Vet.
  • Equine handling experience (5 years).
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather environments.
