Situated within the larger Door community, the LSC addresses legal problems in a holistic and client-driven manner. The Supervising Attorney will focus on immigration cases but will provide comprehensive civil legal services in connection with the LSC&rsquo;s expansion to serve unhoused or unstably housed youth.

Oversee weekly drop-in legal clinic for runaway/homeless youth and develop and coordinate additional limited scope clinics for youth

 This position is a unique opportunity for an attorney to join a passionate team made up of social workers, attorneys, and administrative staff, to engage in interdisciplinary written and oral best interests advocacy on behalf of children in immigration removal proceedings. Young Center is appointed as independent Child Advocate for unaccompanied and separated immigrant children and advocates for their best interests with respect to their custody, placement, conditions of release, reunification with caregivers, repatriation, and their immigration proceedings. Young Center does not directly represent children in immigration matters but works closely with the legal service providers who may represent the children's legal interests. The Staff Attorney will help recruit, train, and supervise bilingual and bicultural volunteer Child Advocates-teachers, law students, social workers, community members-who will work one-on-one with children. Through CAP's state initiative, we also serve and are appointed by the Superior Courts of New Jersey as independent Child Advocates to children released from federal custody into the New Jersey community. Child Advocates meet with children and learn their stories in order to identify and advocate for their best interests through an interdisciplinary, trauma-informed, and culturally sensitive lens. The Young Center's Policy Program fights for wholesale reform of the immigration system while pursuing immediate changes in policy and practice that center children's rights and best interests in all decisions. The Technical Assistance Program, the Young Center's newest program, offers intersectional expertise and critical resources to advocates and service providers working with immigrant children involved in child welfare and other state court systems.

 Under the supervision of the Deputy Program Director (Social Worker), assess which children may need additional supportive and/or mental health services and accompany them to appointments as needed-

Job Overview
At StevensLee, the Legal Assistant plays a vital role as an administrative team member supporting a group of attorneys with the shared goal of providing exceptional service to our valued clients.
The Legal Assistant is multi-dimensional position drawing upon a variety of skills and competencies, best suited for an organized, self-starter who enjoys assuming responsibility and learning new things. 
Primary Responsibilities (responsibilities include but not limited to)<ul><li>
Submit Conflict Checks, open new client matters and create New Business Memos as directed by attorneys.</li><li>
Work with various court systems processing paperwork and e-filings, running docket reports, and maintaining docket search charts.</li><li>
Partner with the firm's Finance Department to produce monthly attorney billing; process and submit check requests and complete attorney expense reports.</li><li>
Draft legal documents, prepare letters, correspondence, reports, and presentations as needed; proofread and ensure accuracy of all materials.</li><li>
Make redactions, conduct bates numbering, and compile document productions.</li><li>
Assist with litigation by preparing for court hearings, scheduling depositions, assembling binders and exhibits.</li><li>
Coordinate attorney calendars, set-up meetings, conference calls, and make travel arrangements.
</li><li>Manage all incoming and outgoing U.S., certified and Fed-Ex mail per attorney request.</li><li>
Welcome clients and greet visitors with a helpful, positive, and professional attitude.</li><li>
Answer direct-line phone calls in a professional manner and route as necessary.</li><li>
Work as a team with other law firm support personnel to ensure all tasks and assignments have been completed.</li></ul>

Qualifications<ul><li>
Bachelor's degree or equivalent relevant work experience</li><li>
Minimum of three years of experience as a legal assistant at a law firm, professional services firm, or corporation</li><li>
Proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook</li><li>
Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly.</li></ul>

Salary Range: The estimated salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000. Actual salary determination is dependent on a variety of factors some of which include: experience, qualifications, and geographic location.
