The Staff Attorney, Unaccompanied Children Program, &ndash; Accelerated Spanish Training position is responsible for providing direct legal representation to clients served by St Frances Cabrini Center for Legal Assistance in immigration matters. Provide legal assistance and direct representation to immigrant clients before the USCIS. Direct representation encompasses the following tasks: conduct legal intake and screening, interview with clients, affiants, witness, experts, case managers, and others who can provide information or statement in furtherance of the client's immigration matters; draft, prepare and assemble relevant immigration petitions; conduct legal research; write memorandum of law, motions or briefs in support of applications and petitions filed before USCIS. <b>Responsibilities:</b></p><p><br>
The Paralegal works under the direction of Supervisory Paralegal. In this role, you will perform litigation services while complying with established procedures, including but not, but not limited to the following:</p><div><ul><li><br>
Compiles, prepares, and summarizes relevant materials for use by attorneys in discovery and in preparation of motions, briefs and other legal documents.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Summarizes depositions and other transcripts; maintains case files</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Performs simple legal research</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Indexes, tracks and controls document discovery (including documents produced and received in discovery).</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Indexes, tracks and exhibits and other materials at depositions and at trial.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Prepares exhibit cross-references.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Assists attorneys in courtroom.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Reviews documents for relevance and privilege according to established guidelines and criteria.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Other examples of the types of work to be performed include compilation of documents for FOIA, production requests, Congressional inquiries, etc.</li></ul><br>

<ul><li>Requires paralegal certificate, or a four-year college degree.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Additionally, at least one year of litigation paralegal experience or project experience (including internships) related to health care, project or document management, policy, research, government staffing, publishing; or equivalent experience.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Requires excellent written and oral communication skills, thorough knowledge and hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Requires technological proficiency in Microsoft Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Must have an understanding on how electronically stored information (computer files) work within an operating system including experience effectively managing, organizing, and analyzing digital files and folders.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Transferable skills related to Electronically Stored Information (ESI) tools and eDiscovery procedures and resources. Coding skills are welcomed, although not required.</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important.</li></ul><br>
