<p></p><p>The Department of Computing is a leading computer science department in the UK. The Computing Support Group (CSG) provides the IT services that support teaching, research and day-to-day departmental activities.</p>
<p>As a Computer Support Officer (Help Desk), you will provide friendly, responsive first-line IT support to staff, students and visitors. You will help resolve a wide range of technical issues, build positive relationships with users, and contribute to the ongoing improvement of IT services across a busy and dynamic academic environment.</p>
<p></p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What you would be doing</b></h2>
<p></p><p>You will provide responsive first-line IT support to staff, students and visitors, managing requests from initial contact through to resolution. You will troubleshoot a wide range of technical issues, support user accounts and IT equipment, and provide assistance across devices, networks, AV and teaching environments.</p>
<p>You will also support IT services for teaching, research and student projects, while contributing to service improvements, documentation and the introduction of new technologies. Working closely with colleagues and external suppliers, you will help deliver reliable, secure and user-focused IT services across the Department.</p>
<p></p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What we are looking for</b></h2>
<p></p><p>We are looking for someone with a good level of education, ideally including a qualification in IT, Computer Science, Information Technology or a related subject, or equivalent relevant experience. You will have experience working in an IT support, service desk or customer-facing technical support role, with a strong understanding of desktop environments and IT hardware.</p>
<p>You will have experience diagnosing and resolving a range of technical issues and supporting operating systems, including <b>macOS, Windows and Linux</b>. A good understanding of hardware, networking and IT infrastructure is important, along with experience using diagnostic, maintenance and security tools. Knowledge of Linux package management systems such as <b>apt</b> and <b>yum</b> would also be beneficial.</p>
<p>You will be a strong problem solver with excellent customer service and communication skills, able to support both technical and non-technical users. You will be comfortable managing multiple requests, prioritising your workload and escalating issues when appropriate. We are also looking for someone who can work independently while being a collaborative and supportive member of the wider team, contributing to service improvements and effective IT support across the Department.</p>

<p>As part of the EdTech team, you will help design, build and operate software used every day by staff and students. You will work closely with users to understand their needs, develop new features, deploy and maintain reliable systems, and contribute to their ongoing improvement.</p>
<p>This is an exciting opportunity to work in a highly technical and collaborative academic environment, using modern software engineering practices and technologies including Python, TypeScript and React. You will also have the opportunity to work with academic colleagues and students, bringing professional software engineering practice into the curriculum and exploring how new technologies, including AI and automation, can enhance education.</p>

<p></p><p>You will be part of the EdTech team, designing, developing and operating innovative software that supports teaching, learning and assessment across the Department. You will maintain and continuously improve production systems, working closely with academic and professional services colleagues and students to understand their needs and deliver effective, reliable solutions using modern software engineering practices.</p>
<p>You will also contribute directly to education through teaching, tutorials, mentoring and student project supervision, as well as providing guidance and training to colleagues on the use of educational technologies. You will collaborate with colleagues across the College and contribute to the wider digital education community.</p>
<p>Alongside software development and teaching, you will have opportunities to explore and evaluate new technologies and approaches to educational technology, using evidence and research to inform improvements. <p></p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What we are looking for</b></h2>
<p></p><p>We are looking for an experienced software engineer with a degree or equivalent qualification in a Computing-related subject. You will have experience working collaboratively within a software engineering team and a strong understanding of modern software development practices, with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies. Familiarity with web development frameworks such as FastAPI and React, as well as automated testing and CI/CD, is important.</p>
<p>You will be a creative and proactive problem solver who enjoys working collaboratively with users and stakeholders to understand their needs and develop high-quality solutions. You will be organised, able to manage your own workload and deadlines, and comfortable working with colleagues at all levels in a diverse academic environment. Experience deploying and managing Linux production systems would be an advantage, as would experience developing software for education.</p>
<p>Excellent communication skills are essential, along with an enthusiasm for teaching, training and supporting others. We are looking for someone who enjoys sharing knowledge, working as part of a team and contributing to their own professional development. Experience of university teaching or mentoring, and knowledge of educational practices, would be desirable.</p>

<p></p><p>Would you like to help build a new laboratory from the ground up and to shape how it works? The Sormanni Lab in the Department of Chemical Engineering is looking for a Research Assistant in Antibody Engineering and Laboratory Automation to strengthen the experimental side of its antibody and nanobody design programme and to take a leading part in establishing its new laboratory at Imperial following the group&rsquo;s relocation from Cambridge.</p>
<p>The group designs antibodies and nanobodies computationally and tests them in house, so the post sits at the interface between AI-design and the bench. It combines hands-on protein science with automation, and carries genuine responsibility for the instruments, procedures and sustainability standards of a laboratory that is still taking shape.</p>
<p></p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What you would be doing</b></h2>
<p></p><p>You will develop and deploy protocols for automated liquid handling to increase the throughput of our antibody cloning, expression, purification and characterisation platform. You will design expression constructs, gene fragments and oligonucleotides and carry out the corresponding molecular biology, and you will produce and characterise antibodies, nanobodies and their targets in support of the group&rsquo;s design projects.</p>
<p>Alongside this research work, you will take substantial responsibility for building the laboratory itself. You will help specify, procure and commission instrumentation, write the risk assessments and standard operating procedures that underpin safe working, establish maintenance schedules and stock control, and lead our work towards LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework) certification.</p>
<p>You will work closely with computational and experimental colleagues, contribute to reports and publications and have the support and time to develop skills that are in demand in both academia and industry.</p>
<p></p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>What we are looking for</b></h2>
<p></p><ul><li>A first degree or MSc (or equivalent) in biochemistry, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioengineering, chemistry or a related discipline.</li>
<li>Some hands-on experience of molecular biology and/or of recombinant protein expression and purification.</li>
<li>A meticulous, well-organised approach and the confidence to take ownership of equipment, procedures and safety documentation.</li>
<li>A strong capacity to learn new techniques quickly and the ability to work independently within a multidisciplinary team.</li>
<li>(Desirable) Some basic knowledge of Python or another scripting language and an interest in automating laboratory workflows.</li>
