Senior Accountant

POSITION SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant role is essential to maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring data integrity and compliance with internal processes and external regulations. This role will oversee the reconciliation of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes as well as provide support across all accounting areas. This role will have regular interactions with Senior Management.
The Senior Accountant will be on-site at our Grand Rapids, MI office.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide accounting oversight ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accurate and timely journal entries
  • Prepare and post monthly journal entries, accruals and adjustments
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly and year-end closing processes
  • Process and review accounts payable (AP) and account receivable (AR) transactions, address any issues
  • Ensure all outstanding AP items are cleared in a timely manner
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies, as needed
  • Reconcile and manage company credit card transactions and enforcing policies and processes
  • Complete weekly ACH reporting and reviews
  • Monitor Bill Backs and Supplier receivables, follow up with supplies as needed
  • Assist with preparation and documentation for internal and external audits
  • Accurately book and monitor recycle-related financial activity
  • Prepare, review and file accurate tax returns for sales and use taxes
  • Process and submit unclaimed property reports in accordance with state regulations
  • Prepare and file Heavy Highway & Fuel Tax reporting, as required
  • Assist with financial planning, forecasting, and budget variance analysis
  • Provide support for department projects and ad hoc reporting, as assigned
  • Other duties, as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance (four-year college or university)
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years’ progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience with tax filings (Sales & Use, Heavy Highway, Unclaimed Property)
  • Advance Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.
  • Experience in consumer goods, preferred.

Computer Skills: Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Accounting Software, NetSuite preferred
Certificates & Licenses: CPA or progress toward CPA designation
Other Requirements: Must pass physical, drug screen, & background check.
