Organization: Venture House, Inc. Reports To: Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Location: New York, NY Position Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

Venture House, Inc. is a community based non-profit mental health agency, serving adults who are living with mental health conditions. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to support the financial operations of the organization. The Senior Accountant will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and will play a key role in maintaining the integrity of the organization’s financial systems, supporting budget preparation, managing the general ledger, and assisting with monthly and year-end financial reporting.

The ideal candidate will have strong nonprofit accounting experience and be adept at working with government-funded programs, cost allocation methodologies, and financial reporting requirements. The candidate must be comfortable working in a shared office environment on a daily basis with individuals living with mental health conditions. The ideal candidate will be creative and strategic in addressing and resolving fiscal matters.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Accounting

· Assist the CFO with annual budget preparation and financial projections for agency programs and administrative departments.

· Manage and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

· Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

· Perform bank, credit card, and balance sheet account reconciliations on a regular basis.

· Monitor and review accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll entries to ensure accurate posting to the general ledger.

Cost Allocation & Grant Management

· Support the development and maintenance of cost allocation methodologies across multiple programs and funding sources.

· Assist in tracking grant expenditures and ensuring compliance with funder requirements.

· Prepare financial reports required for government contracts and grant reporting.

· Assist in preparing Consolidated Fiscal Reports (CFR)

Financial Reporting

· Prepare internal monthly financial reports comparing actual performance to budget.

· Assist the CFO in preparing financial reports for senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

· Support the preparation of documentation for annual audits, funder reviews, and regulatory filings.

Systems & Process Improvement

· Maintain and improve accounting procedures to strengthen internal controls and financial efficiency.

· Assist in maintaining accurate financial data within accounting systems and supporting systems integration when necessary.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

· 3–5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or government-funded organization.

· Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.

Technical Skills

· Required:

o Proficiency in QuickBooks

o Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis

· Preferred:

o Knowledge of NYC PASSPort

o Experience with New York Statewide Financial System (SFS)

o Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge

Additional Preferred Qualifications

· Experience working with government-funded programs, particularly New York State or New York City contracts.

· Familiarity with cost allocation plans and indirect cost methodologies.

· Experience assisting with annual audits and financial compliance reviews.

· CPA or CPA-track candidates are encouraged to apply.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
