Position Overview

The Senior Accountant is responsible for the full financial lifecycle of construction projects. This role partners closely with project managers to monitor budgets, track costs, and deliver accurate Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting. You will play a key role in ensuring financial transparency and operational control across all active projects.

Key Responsibilities

Project Accounting & Job Costing

  • Maintain and analyze job cost reports, including labor, materials, and subcontractor costs
  • Track project budgets vs. actuals and identify cost variances
  • Prepare and maintain WIP schedules

Billing & Revenue Recognition

  • Prepare and manage AIA billings, subcontractor pay applications, and lien waivers
  • Process change orders and update contract values
  • Support revenue recognition using percentage-of-completion methodology

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Assist with month-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and chart of accounts
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions across project entities

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with contracts, internal controls, and audit requirements
  • Support internal/external audits, including workers’ comp and general liability
  • Track Certificates of Insurance (COIs) and subcontractor compliance

Payroll & Tax

  • Oversee certified payroll and union/prevailing wage calculations
  • Manage sales and use tax filings, including tax-exempt project tracking

Cash Flow & Forecasting

  • Prepare project-level cash flow forecasts
  • Monitor timing of receivables vs. payables to support liquidity planning

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 4–7+ years of construction accounting or project accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and percentage-of-completion accounting
  • Experience with AIA billing and job costing systems
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with operations and project teams

Pay: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
