The Plant Accountant is responsible for overseeing all plant-level accounting activities, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, supporting internal and external reporting, and maintaining compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. This role manages daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting tasks, including banking, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, general ledger, inventory, and compliance reporting.
· Monitor daily banking activity, reconcile accounts, review fraud alerts, maintain cash flow reporting, and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
· Process wire and ACH transactions, stop payments, and manual checks as needed.
· Coordinate with the Plant Manager for approvals and cash transfer calculations.
· Review, approve, and process vendor invoices, credit card charges, benefit invoices, and petty cash reimbursements.
· Maintain vendor records, request new Visa cards, and reconcile prepaid material payments.
· Prepare and file 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC annually.
· Create and issue customer invoices for goods, services, and employee-related charges.
· Record cash receipts and reconcile payments weekly.
· Monitor outstanding receivables, follow up on collections, and prepare customer aging reports.
· Track capital projects (CIP), maintain depreciation schedules, and record asset disposals.
· Prepare annual property tax filings and fixed asset reports.
· Post journal entries, accruals, reversals, and intercompany charges.
· Reconcile balance sheet accounts, raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory.
· Support month-end and year-end closing, preparing financial statements and variance analysis.
· Assist with audits, tax filings, and financial compliance reporting.
· Maintain BOM costing files, product line data, and perform annual cost roll-ups.
· Prepare inventory valuation reports and obsolete reserve analysis.
· Support inventory audits and reconciliations.
· Review and verify payroll submissions, labor allocations, garnishments, and deductions.
· Prepare payroll journal entries, accruals for vacation/PTO, and benefit reconciliations.
· Maintain compliance with federal and state reporting requirements (W-2, 941, 940, ACA, etc.).
· Coordinate workers’ compensation reporting, audits, and insurance renewals.
· Support corporate filings, tax preparation, and research surveys (Census, R&D, etc.).
· Maintain organized financial records and ensure timely document retention and disposal.
· Other tasks or duties as assigned by the Company
· Strong knowledge of accounting principles, GAAP, and internal controls.
· Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
· Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
· Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, and percentages.
· Experience in plant or manufacturing accounting is preferred.
· Proficiency with ERP systems (JDE preferred), payroll systems, and Microsoft Excel.
· Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
· Exceptional attention to detail, with a talent for finding and correcting discrepancies.
· Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
· 5-7 years of accounting experience, preferably in a manufacturing or plant setting.
· CPA or CMA certification a plus but not required.
