Job Summary

The Senior Accountant - Construction will be responsible for managing and overseeing the full spectrum of accounting and financial activities for construction projects deployed in Somalia. The role requires strong experience in construction accounting, cost control, budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance. The successful candidate will support project management teams by providing accurate financial insights to ensure effective cost management and timely reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

• Manage day-to-day accounting operations including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, and bank reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
• Ensure accurate recording of project costs, revenues, accruals, and provisions.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.

Construction & Project Accounting

• Monitor project budgets, costs, and cash flow.
• Track project expenses, commitments, and variations.
• Prepare cost reports and variance analysis for management review.
• Support project managers in financial planning and cost control.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Assist in preparing annual budgets and project forecasts.
• Update cash flow projections and monitor funding requirements.
• Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation measures.

Compliance & Controls

• Ensure compliance with company financial policies and local regulations.
• Support internal and external audits and respond to audit queries.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
• Ensure proper documentation and record retention.

Taxation & Statutory Requirements

• Coordinate with local advisors on tax, statutory filings, and compliance (where applicable).
• Ensure timely submission of required reports and payments.

Coordination & Reporting

• Coordinate with site teams, procurement, and head office finance.
• Prepare regular financial reports for head office and senior management.
• Support mobilization, site financial setup, and close-out activities.

Qualifications, Requirements & Key Competencies

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Professional certification such as ACCA, CPA, CA, or CMA is highly preferred.
• 7–10 years of accounting experience, including at least 3–5 years in construction or project accounting.
• Experience working on overseas or remote project deployments is an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of cost control, budgeting, financial reporting, and financial planning.
• Proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• High attention to detail and accuracy in all financial matters.
• Ability to work independently in remote or challenging environments.
• Demonstrated ethical judgment and confidentiality.
• Effective coordination with multicultural teams and stakeholders.

Additional Notes

• Candidate must be willing to be deployed in Somalia.
• Experience in infrastructure, civil, or EPC construction projects is preferred.
