Role Overview

We’re looking for a Senior Bookkeeper to join our fast-paced, high-growth team and someone who wants to make an immediate impact. This is a part-time on-site role in Pittsburgh, PA and will grow into a full-time position. The Bookkeeper is a hands-on accounting professional responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day financial operations while ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong internal controls. Reporting to our Controller, this role requires the technical expertise of a degreed accountant, with the ability to translate financial data into clear insights that support leadership decision-making and company growth. Key Responsibilities

Core Accounting & Bookkeeping

  • Manage daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and reconcile the General Ledger in accordance with GAAP and accrual accounting standards.
  • Ensure accurate verification, coding, posting, and timely payment of all vendor invoices, capturing available discounts where applicable.
  • Oversee the collection, posting, and reconciliation of all accounts receivable.
  • Record and reconcile cash receipts; verify bank deposits and monthly bank statements.
  • Process payroll accurately and on time, including payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s).

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Prepare monthly internal financial statements on both an accrual and cash basis by the 10th of each month.
  • Provide written financial analysis highlighting trends, key ratios, budget variances, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain budgets, forecasts, projections, and ad hoc financial analyses as requested by leadership.
  • Support audit readiness and maintain well-organized financial records and documentation.

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial, tax, and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and improve internal accounting controls, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure accounting practices align with GAAP and industry best practices.

Cross-Functional & Leadership Support

  • Partner with company leadership and the Controller to ensure accurate, timely client invoicing in accordance with contracts and deliverables.
  • Provide financial insight and operational support to leadership to enable strategic growth.
  • Serve as a trusted internal resource on accounting standards, reporting, inventory and financial best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 5–10+ years of progressive experience in bookkeeping or accounting, preferably in a small to mid-sized organization.
  • Strong command of GAAP, accrual accounting, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop (Enterprise) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret financial statements.
  • Extensive experience managing payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving business environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
