Senior Bookkeeper (Construction)

Stewart Construction is a growing, family-owned construction and remodeling company based in Sebring, Florida. We are seeking a Senior Bookkeeper with a high level of experience—someone who can operate beyond day-to-day bookkeeping and function as the financial backbone of the company.
This role is ideal for a seasoned bookkeeper or accounting professional who is comfortable with financial reporting, job costing, work-in-progress (WIP) tracking, and cash flow forecasting, and who wants to work closely with ownership in a hands-on, decision-support role.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate and timely financial records in QuickBooks Online
- Manage accounts payable and receivable
- Perform monthly account reconciliations
- Process and oversee payroll, payroll taxes, and related filings
- Track subcontractor payments and compliance
- Handle sales tax and use tax reporting as required
Construction Financial Management
- Prepare and maintain Work in Progress (WIP) reports
- Track job costs, margins, and profitability by project
- Reconcile job cost data between accounting and project management systems
- Identify cost overruns, billing gaps, and margin trends
- Assist ownership with understanding job-level financial performance
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
- Create budget vs. actual reports and variance explanations
- Develop cash flow forecasts and financial projections
- Provide financial insights to support operational and strategic decisions
Oversight & Process Improvement
- Improve and document accounting processes and internal controls
- Coordinate with company CPA for year-end close and tax filings
- Support company growth through better reporting, structure, and visibility
- Act as a trusted financial resource for ownership and management
Qualifications
Required
- 5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong proficiency in QuickBooks Online
- Experience with reconciliations, payroll, and financial reporting
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to clearly explain financial information to non-accountants
Strongly Preferred
- Construction industry experience
- Experience with job costing and WIP reporting
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, reporting)
- Prior experience working closely with ownership or leadership
- Background as a senior bookkeeper, accounting manager, or controller
CPA or accounting degree is a plus, but not required.
