Senior Director, Accounting & Controls (Chicago – Hybrid)

We’re partnering with a large, publicly traded organization undergoing a significant transformation within its global finance function. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting controls environment and driving enterprise-wide compliance and risk initiatives.

This individual will take ownership of the end-to-end internal controls framework, including leading the annual compliance cycle, enhancing policies and processes, and partnering closely with senior leadership to strengthen financial integrity across a complex, multinational business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Lead and evolve the global internal controls and compliance program, including planning, risk assessment, and execution
• Partner with cross-functional stakeholders across finance, technology, and operations to ensure a strong and scalable control environment
• Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and provide updates to senior leadership on program status, risks, and remediation efforts
• Build and develop a high-performing team responsible for documentation, testing, and continuous improvement of controls
• Identify opportunities to streamline processes, leverage automation, and enhance efficiency across the organization
• Support broader transformation initiatives, including system implementations and integration efforts

What They’re Looking For:

• 10+ years of experience across audit, accounting, or internal controls in a public company environment
• Strong foundation in internal controls frameworks (e.g., COSO) and financial reporting standards, SOX
• Background in public accounting (Big 4 or similar) is required
• Proven ability to lead teams and influence across a global, matrixed organization
• Strong project management and problem-solving capabilities
• CPA required
