Job Description Summary:
Performs hard floor and carpet care related to tasks adhering to established techniques and standards in patient care and ancillary areas and/or possesses ability to perform service call cleaning in specialized areas of the Hospital. Performs heavy lifting of trash and linen at least 40% of work shift and /or is considered the primary assignment for management of biohazardous waste. All tasks follow established department policies and procedures maintaining or exceeding standards of cleanliness on sanitation as set forth by Marin County, the California Department of Public health and The Joint Commission.
Job Requirements, Prerequisites and Essential Functions:Job Specifications:Education:
High School level or equivalent preferred.
Experience:
A minimum of six months experience in an acute care hospital, a skilled nursing or rehabilitation facility, or a medical clinic is preferred. Twelve months experience as a janitor in an office building or commercial complex or as a hotel housekeeper is acceptable. Floor care and/or documented ability to physically handle heavy lifting and pushing/pulling tasks preferred.
License and Certifications:
Integrative Agitation Management (IAM) Required within 30 days of hire

Duties And Responsibilities:
Essential (Not Modifiable)
Perform scheduled cycle cleaning and non-scheduled projects as specified by department policy and procedure.
Proper and safe use of heavy equipment including high-speed floor buffers, scrubbing machines, carpet extractors, large area vacuums, etc.
Stripping and re-finishing of hard surface floors.
Shampoo and extraction of carpeted surfaces.
Spot cleaning carpets.
Clean stairways, exits, entrances and elevators as specified by departmental procedures.
Appropriate and safe use of cleaning products and floor care chemicals including preparation of end use products.
Removal of trash, including biohazardous waste, and soiled linen from intermediate storage areas to trash compactor and soiled linen and infectious waste holding areas.
Performs specialized cleaning in all areas of facility through the Service Call assignment.
Frequent lifting of heavy trash and linen bags and pushing/pulling of furniture and equipment.
Washes windows per prescribed squeegee method.
Changes drapes and cubicle curtains in patient rooms/treatment areas, offices and public areas.
Clean window blinds.
Ceiling and wall washing and interior window washing as specified by department procedures.
Adheres to hospital service standards and behaviors
Essential Job Functions Required for Designated Linen Room Assignment (not modifiable)
Distributes clean linen and/or scrub apparel, exchange carts to designated units.
Stocks linen carts/shelves.
Fills linen orders as needed.
Maintains special hypoallergenic linen supply.
Folds/refolds linen s needed to maintain departmental standards.
Removes clean linen from bulk transport carts.
Removes stained, torn or mendable linen, placing each item in designated areas.
Sweeps linen room at the end of each day.
Maintains appropriate soil-to-clean separation.
Counts linen returns and records amounts daily.
Operates washing machine and dryer as needed.
Secondary (Modifiable)
Dust mop floors using chemically treated dust cloths or cloth dust mops.
Wet mop floors using hospital approved, registered disinfectants or appropriate floor care products.
Vacuum carpets in assigned work areas.
Tear down and set up conference or meeting rooms, offices, patient rooms, etc.
Move, transport and re-align beds and other furniture as needed.
Spot clean walls, windows, doors, etc. using appropriate cleaning products.
Dust horizontal and vertical surfaces using treated cloths or dust mops with the appropriate dusting tools.
Polish metal surfaces and fixtures with appropriate polishing products.
Re-stock paper products and other supplies in assigned work areas on daily basis.
Empty, clean and reline with plastic liners waste baskets and other trash receptacles.
Collect trash and soiled linen from work area to designated storage area.
Disinfect fixtures, beds, furnishings and surfaces with hospital approved, registered disinfectant using approved cleaning procedures.
Perform routine, daily cleaning procedures of patient rooms and treatment areas.
Perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms and treatment areas, including but not limited to, trash and soiled linen removal, high and low dusting, spot cleaning and disinfecting, bed cleaning and disinfecting, make up bed with clean linens, sweeping and mopping floor, visual inspection.
Maintain cleaning tools, equipment and E/S storage areas in clean and organized manner.
Inspect and evaluate completed tasks for quality standards.
Maintain standards designed for compliance with The Joint Commission, Title 22 and other regulatory agencies.
Performs other departmental tasks as assigned.

Individual pay is set by skills, experience, qualifications, and internal/market equity, consistent with MarinHealth’s compensation philosophy.
