Senior Property Accountant

About the Role:

Join one of the fastest-growing property management companies in the nation!

Northpoint Asset Management is looking for an experienced Property Accountant to join our expanding team; someone who operates with the energy and pace of a startup. While we’ve been in the industry for decades, we maintain a roll-up-your-sleeves mentality and value people who thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. Our team moves quickly and takes pride in building high-performing teams.

We’re looking for a driven, resourceful professional who combines strong functional expertise with a builder’s mindset — someone who takes ownership, figures things out independently and is always looking for ways to improve processes, systems and outcomes. The ideal candidate brings strong accounting fundamentals, sound judgment and a high level of personal accountability, along with hands-on experience in property management accounting operations. AppFolio experience and property management or real estate experience are strongly preferred, as this role sits close to the day-to-day financial activity of our properties and requires someone who can ensure accuracy, solve issues quickly and help improve how accounting and operations work together. That said, we are ultimately looking for someone who attacks issues, solves problems with little direction and is motivated to make how we work better over time.

What You’ll Do: The Property Accountant will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day accounting operations of a portfolio of properties, with a strong focus on financial accuracy, owner reporting, transaction oversight and operational partnership. This role requires someone who is detail-oriented, adaptable and energized by solving problems, creating structure and driving efficiencies across property accounting workflows.

This position is ideal for someone with a strong property accounting background who enjoys taking ownership, working closely with operations teams, digging into issues independently and continuously improving how work gets done.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and deliver accurate, timely owner statements and related property reporting
  • Manage key aspects of the month-end close process for properties, including journal entries, reconciliations, and issue investigation and resolution
  • Reconcile trust bank accounts and security deposit accounts
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Review day-to-day property accounting activity, including rents, deposits, vendor payments, management fees and other property-level transactions for accuracy and completeness
  • Partner closely with Property Managers and operations teams to resolve accounting issues, ensure proper coding and improve the flow of financial information
  • Monitor resident ledger activity, payables, charge corrections and other operational accounting items to help ensure clean and accurate records
  • Help ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, owner requirements and property management agreements
  • Support audits, tax preparation and other compliance-related activities as needed
  • Identify process gaps and recommend improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency and consistency across property accounting operations
  • Take on special projects, troubleshoot issues as they arise and help build better systems and processes over time

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, ideally in property accounting, property management or real estate accounting
  • AppFolio experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in the property management or real estate industry strongly preferred
  • Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, and property-level financial reporting
  • Experience preparing owner statements and working with property operations teams is strongly preferred

Requirements:

  • Builder mentality; you’re a creative thinker who enjoys building scalable process and operational efficiency
  • Advanced Excel skills strongly preferred
  • Highly proactive and self-motivated; you don’t wait for others to tell you what to do
  • Strong relationship builder with excellent communication skills; able to build cross-functional relationships and collaborate with stakeholders
  • An autonomous operator who takes pride and ownership in their work
  • Organized and data-driven, with strong attention to detail and the ability to spot trends, identify issues and drive resolutions
  • Strong commitment to accuracy, compliance and producing high-quality financial reporting for property owners and internal stakeholders
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment
  • Remote in Nashville, TN or hybrid work environment in Austin, TX with minimum 2 days a week in our new office

A Note to Candidates: While AppFolio experience and experience in property management or real estate are strongly preferred, a lack of that background should not discourage you from applying. If you are someone who attacks issues, solves problems with little direction and is constantly looking for ways to improve how things work, we want to hear from you.
