Specialist Contract Lawyer – Power & Water (PPA / IPP Projects)

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Specialist Contract Lawyer with strong exposure to Power and Water projects, particularly Independent Power Producer (IPP) and Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) structures.

The role will support the legal, contractual, and regulatory aspects of power and water production projects, ensuring compliance, risk mitigation, and effective stakeholder collaboration. This position is suited for a senior legal professional with hands-on experience in energy-sector contracts, preferably within utilities, IPPs, or EPC project environments.

Key ResponsibilitiesContract Drafting & Negotiation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Water Purchase Agreements (WPAs).
  • Review and negotiate energy-sector contracts, EPC agreements, and related project documentation.
  • Analyze contractual deviations and propose amendments to protect organizational interests.

Legal & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure all contracts comply with Qatari laws, applicable regulations, and international standards.
  • Advise on legal risks, claims, disputes, and contract interpretation.
  • Support regulatory compliance matters related to power and water projects.

Risk Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate legal and contractual risks.
  • Support project teams on governance, risk registers, and compliance controls.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive contract documentation.
  • Track contract changes, amendments, approvals, and status reports.
  • Ensure decisions and approvals are properly documented.

Communication & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Draft formal correspondence and contract documents in English and Arabic.
  • Communicate complex legal concepts clearly to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with Legal, Compliance, Finance, Project Management teams, and external parties (consultants, contractors, government entities).

Minimum QualificationsEducation & Experience

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) is mandatory (LLM or advanced contract management qualifications preferred).
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in contract law, preferably within the energy, power, or utilities sector.
  • Proven experience with PPAs / WPAs and IPP / IWPP projects.
  • Strong familiarity with FIDIC contracts, EPC agreements, and regulatory frameworks relevant to Qatar.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong contract drafting, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Solid understanding of energy-sector legal and contractual structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Arabic.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and complex contractual matters.

Preferred Background

Candidates with experience in one or more of the following environments will be highly preferred:

  • Independent Power Producers (IPPs)
  • Power & Water Utilities
  • Energy or Infrastructure EPC Contractors
  • Power generation, desalination, or water treatment projects
