Student Affairs

Summary

This position provides comprehensive support to the division of Student Affairs in the areas of employee relations, recruitment, engagement, organizational design, and training. The position supports strategic initiatives through information analysis, review, and interpretation at the division and campus level, contributing to enhanced organizational performance and employee experience.

Employment Activities

• Consult on recruitment and selection for academic, staff, and student positions; assist and guide recruiting, hiring, and offer procedures; process direct promotions and exceptions. Advise on separations and appointment changes, including exit interviews and documentation.
• Partner with Student Affairs HR office staff to coordinate and implement new hire orientation and onboarding programs, including scheduling and logistics, and leaders.
• Maintain awareness of employment actions, partnering with the Student Affairs HR office staff and University of Missouri support centers to ensure accurate and timely processing of employment actions including hiring, incentive payments, additional pay actions, separations, overpayments, etc.

Training

• Observe and track data and observations to identify trends in knowledge or skill gaps for departments and the division. In partnership with the Associate Director and Learning & Development identify training resources and strategies to recommend and implement to address these gaps.
• Identify, propose, and coordinate educational activities focused on University policies and procedures; changes in processes and services, and utilize feedback to assist in process improvements at department and division levels,

Organization and Position Design

• Collaborate with Associate Director and department leadership to support organizational design through impact analysis, transition support, and orientation for new employees, departments, and supervisors.
• Coordinate with UM System Compensation & Classification Team to evaluate positions for appropriate classification (FLSA, GGS or PAT grade, title), conduct position audits, and assist individuals with documentation for reclassification requests.
• Review and advise on salary offers, and compensation decisions, ensuring alignment with university policy, equity, market data, and departmental budgets. Educate supervisors on compensation policies and carry out assigned compensation studies to support adjustment requests and recommendations.

Employee Relations

• Serve as the initial point of contact for performance concerns within Student Affairs, offering guidance on actions and escalating complex or sensitive matters as needed. Facilitate informal complaint resolution and ensure timely documentation and compliance with relevant policies and employment laws.
• Connect employees and managers with university resources such as mediation, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Office of Institutional Equity, and the Office of Accessibility and ADA.
• Research, and communicate university policies, regulations, and employment laws to management and employees. Ensure compliance in all personnel activities, including leave, termination, layoff, and transition assistance, and provide necessary information for processes such as grievance and HR Equity.

• Contribute to divisional and university projects and goals, assist co-workers, review documents, offer constructive feedback, and share the workload to achieve collective objectives. Remain up-to-date on HR and organizational leadership trends and research-based knowledge. Actively participate in professional development opportunities.
• Exhibit strong written and oral communication skills and utilize critical thinking and initiative to support solution finding and education through gathering and analyzing data, writing reports, and preparing presentations using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.), databases, and other informational systems.
• Partner with the Associate Director and Student Affairs Assessment team to implement HR satisfaction and assessment strategies to improve office operations and customer satisfaction.

Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

This position may require evening and weekend hours for departmental activities and programs. Occasionally, additional hours may be needed for division and campus projects.

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

• Professional HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR/SPHR).
• Over 5 years of progressively responsible HR experience, including recruitment and training, preferably in higher education.
• Demonstrated experience supporting staff and students across various disciplines.
• Proven ability to utilize Microsoft Office Suite and proprietary Enterprise Resource Planning systems (e.g. PeopleSoft) to research, develop, and present reports, trainings, and presentations aimed at clarifying, educating, or persuading.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to build trust and maintain confidentiality.

Salary Range: $59,737.60 - $91,500 per year, paid monthly
