The Sr. Piping Designer is responsible for leading the piping design team in developing detailed layouts, 3D models, and technical drawings for water and wastewater treatment systems. The role ensures that all piping designs meet project specifications, international standards, and safety codes. This position requires leadership in team coordination, resource planning, technical review, and client interfacing, along with hands-on capability in 2D/3D design, stress analysis, and material take-offs.
Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of junior and senior piping designers, providing mentorship, review, and technical direction to ensure design integrity and adherence to standards.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Mechanical, Process, and Civil teams to align piping design deliverables with project timelines and milestones.
- Participate in project planning, resource allocation, and scheduling for the piping design scope.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for piping design-related communications with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Ensure all piping work complies with ASME, API, ANSI, and company QA/QC procedures.
- Champion the use of 3D design software (PDMS, E3D, SP3D, or AutoCAD Plant 3D), promoting efficient and automated design practices.
- Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, commissioning, and start-up, including resolution of NCRs and design deviations.
- Oversee and validate Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and coordinate with procurement for technical clarifications.
- Develop and review P&IDs, PFDs, piping and equipment layouts, and 3D models for treatment plants.
- Collect and integrate engineering calculations, design data, and conceptual inputs into complete and accurate models.
- Stay updated with the latest safety, operational, and maintenance standards, ensuring compliance in all designs.
- Annotate and verify design specifications and dimensions in CAD and manual calculations.
- Collaborate with the execution team to prepare detailed shop drawings and fabrication layouts.
- Prepare technical illustrations and manuals for operation and maintenance documentation.
- Conduct piping stress analysis using SolidWorks, CAESAR II, or equivalent tools to ensure system reliability under design loads.
- Apply and monitor WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications) and PQR (Procedure Qualification Records) during fabrication and QA inspection stages.
- Prepare BOQs and support the cost estimation and project bidding process.
- Execute any other technical or leadership task assigned by management.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (mandatory).
- Certification or specialized training in Piping Design / Plant Design / Stress Analysis preferred.
