About the Role:

The Substation Procurement Manager is responsible for overseeing all sourcing, purchasing, and contract management activities related to electrical substations, including high-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, etc. The role ensures that procurement strategies align with project timelines, cost objectives, quality standards, engineering specifications and compliance requirements.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and implement procurement strategies and procedures for substation equipment including but not limited to high-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and project management teams to forecast, source and contract procurement needs.
  • Ensure alignment with company/project objectives, budgets, and schedules.
  • Identify, qualify, and negotiate with suppliers of HV/MV equipment (transformers, switchgear, breakers, protection & control systems. etc.)
  • Establish long-term supplier relationships, ensuring compliance with company quality and safety standards.
  • Conduct supplier performance evaluations and risk assessments.
  • Help draft, review, and negotiate supply contracts, ensuring favorable terms and protection against risks.
  • Ensure adherence to legal, commercial, and technical requirements.
  • Monitor commodity and logistics markets affecting pricing of copper, steel, and electrical components.
  • Implement cost-control measures to ensure competitive procurement.
  • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks that may impact substation projects.
  • Oversee timely delivery of materials and equipment to meet project milestones.
  • Coordinate with logistics teams for deliveries including international shipments and customs clearance.
  • Resolve procurement-related issues that may affect project delivery.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate procurement policies, ethical sourcing, and sustainability standards.
  • Maintain compliance with industry standards (IEEE, IEC, ANSI, ISO) and utility-specific, customer and design requirements.
  • Document and report procurement KPIs to senior management.

This position is classified as exempt meaning more than 50% of the employee’s time is spent performing exempt job duties consistent with this job description. About You:

Qualifications

  • BS degree in supply chain management, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 7-10 years in procurement, with at least 3-5 years in power, utilities, or substation projects.

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage equipment, EPC contracting, and utility procurement practices.


Physical Demands

  • Frequently works outdoors on uneven surfaces.
  • May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • May be required to stoop, bend, and crouch.

Work Environment

  • Works in the office 100% of the time.
  • May work in varying weather conditions: hot, cold, and wet conditions.
  • May occasionally work in areas with large industrial equipment subject to high noise levels and hazardous chemicals.

  • Salary $150,000-$175,000/ year
    • Commensurate with experience, paid weekly. Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. CSI reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the selected candidate's qualifications.
