Summer Program Counselor

Job Summary

Portland Pottery is hiring for our 2026 Summer Program! Come join us at the studio for a fun-filled summer of ceramics! Our program runs for 11 weeks each summer, beginning the third week of June and running through the very end of August (with an onboarding/training week the week prior to the programs start). Each week, you'll be responsible for teaching children how to hand build, wheel throw, glaze, and fuse glass - in addition to other exciting and engaging crafts - for kiddos aged 6-14. This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact while gaining valuable experience in education, childcare, and youth development... not to mention, ceramics! We are happy to provide any and all training to help you meet the following duties:

Duties

• Lead and facilitate engaging activities across various mediums including handbuilding, wheel throwing, glass fusing, and other arts and crafts.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants.
• Manage classroom behavior using effective behavior management techniques to maintain a positive environment.
• Provide first aid when necessary, responding promptly to minor injuries or health concerns with professionalism, care, and concern.
• Collaborate with fellow counselors and staff to plan daily schedules, coordinate activities, and ensure smooth program operations.
• Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding participant progress or concerns (as appropriate).
• Have FUN!!!!

Skills

• Experience working with children in settings such as daycare, camp, tutoring, or babysitting roles preferred.
• Ability to handle behavioral challenges with patience and effective behavior management techniques.
• First aid certification preferred.
• Experience with ceramics preferred.
• Must be a fun-loving and motivated team player!

Pay: $16.00 - $19.00 per hour
