The Mission

We are looking for a Systems Investigator/ Systems Administrator to serve as the last line of defense for our diverse application ecosystem. Our environment is a true "tech mosaic"—ranging from modern deployments to critical legacy systems. You will be a primary owner of these application environments, ensuring they stay performant and stable even after the original developers have moved on.

This is not a "button-pusher" role. You will be expected to dive deep into the OS, the middleware, and the application logs to find root causes in an environment where documentation is often a "work in progress."

You will work in tandem with our Senior Systems Engineer and in close partnership with the respective Development teams for each application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cross-Platform Troubleshooting: Provide deep-tier support for applications running on both Windows Server (2016–2022) and Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu/CentOS).

  • Middleware Mastery: Maintain and tune the "connective tissue" of our apps, including IIS, Apache, and Tomcat.

  • Application Forensics: Diagnose failures within Java (JRE/JDK) and ASP.NET environments. You’ll be the person who knows how to read a stack trace or use a thread dump to figure out why an app is hanging.

  • The "Archeology" Factor: Reverse-engineer the dependencies of legacy applications. You will find the hard-coded paths, the expired certificates, and the specific library versions that keep the business running.

  • OS and App Upgrades: Understand the application and OS dependencies so that upgrades can be performed (in-place or migration) while keeping applications responsive.

  • Service Recovery & Automation: Use PowerShell and Bash to automate health checks and create "self-healing" scripts for brittle services.

  • Day-to-day support: Provide support for co-workers with day-to-day tasks, including Active Directory, disk space and storage usage, network connectivity and troubleshooting, Windows and Linux vulnerability management, application installs, server builds and decommissioning.

The Candidate Profile (2–3 Years Experience)

  • Platform Agnostic: You are comfortable at both a Windows Command Prompt and a Linux Terminal. You know how to check a system service as easily as a Windows Service.

  • The "Detective" Instinct: You don't just "try a reboot." You check the logs, verify permissions, and isolate the variable.

  • Middleware Knowledge: You understand how a web server (Apache/IIS) hands off a request to an application server (Tomcat/ASP.NET).

  • Technical Communication: You can explain a complex technical failure clearly and provide a "Post-Mortem" that helps the team avoid the same issue twice. You are comfortable writing documentation and sharing information through knowledge base articles.

Windows Server (AD, GPO, Permissions) AND Linux (SSH, Grep, Permissions, Cron)
