Position Name: Coach, Grow and Climb

Reports To: Program Manager, Grow and Climb


Position summary

Branches is seeking to hire two Lead Instructors (Coaches) to drive program and organizational goals and priorities. One Coach will specialize in the Grow program, focusing on elementary students (Kindergarten-5th grade), while the other Coach will specialize in the Climb program, focusing on middle and high school students. Both roles require a passion for teaching and building relationships with students, leading daily lessons and activities, ensuring programs operate with excellence, and helping students know God by embracing, embodying, and promoting the Branches Way. These distinct W’s articulate how the Branches culture is formed: Words, Worth, Welcome, With, Walk, Wonder.


Primary Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities (Applicable to Both Grow and Climb Programs):

Direct Service:

· Lead the implementation of learning and enrichment activities in afterschool and summer programs.

· Assist in the development of lessons covering social-emotional learning, recreation, enrichment, academic, literacy, and college readiness.

· Build deep, meaningful relationships with students and families.

· Develop and implement strategies for effective homework and academic assistance.

· Encourage positive behaviors by authentically praising, affirming, and breathing life into students.

· Create and maintain a warm, caring, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.


Operational Excellence:

· Ensure strategies and activities are implemented in a consistently high-quality manner and align with program model and expected outcomes.

· Uphold Department of Children and Families (DCF) licensure standards and organizational policies as detailed in the Grow & Climb Operations Manual.

· Collect timely and accurate demographic, attendance, and outcomes data.


Program Organization and Preparation:

· Organize and prepare lesson plans to ensure all classes and activities are well-structured and engaging.

· Ensure all necessary materials for programming are thoughtfully planned and prepared in advance.

· Maintain an organized and welcoming environment that fosters learning and growth.

· Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless execution of programs and activities.


Grow Program-Specific Responsibilities:

· Lead the implementation of learning and enrichment activities specifically for Kindergarten-5th grade students.

· Focus on afterschool enrichment, literacy, and tutoring for elementary students.

· Develop and implement strategies tailored to the needs of younger students to support their academic and social-emotional growth.


Climb Program-Specific Responsibilities:

· Lead the implementation of learning and enrichment activities specifically for middle and high school students.

· Focus on preparing students for post-secondary success by teaching life and job skills.

· Guide eligible youth in applying for Branches’ Climb Higher scholarship.

· Develop and implement strategies tailored to the needs of older students to support their academic and career readiness.


Qualifications

Experience:

· Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

· Successful experience working directly with students.

· Completion of DCF School-Age Child Care Staff Credential during the first year of employment is required.


Skills:

· Proficiency in written and spoken English necessary; Spanish and/or Creole language skills are a plus.

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

· Effective classroom management skills.

· Ability to develop and implement engaging lesson plans.

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

· Ability to adapt to changing environments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

· Strong instructional and facilitation skills.


WORKING CONDITIONS OR EXPECTATIONS

Work is performed in an afterschool setting providing services to children and families at the Branches Community Center site. Travel to other Branches sites or meetings is required. Additionally, occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary at times. Reliable transportation is required to fulfill normal duties.
