Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Technical Design Engineer to join our team in the cable manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the design, development, and technical specification of electrical cables, including power, control, instrumentation, or fiber optic cables. You will be responsible for transforming customer requirements into practical cable designs that meet industry standards, cost targets, and performance specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop cable constructions based on customer specifications, standards (IEC, BS, UL, etc.), and application requirements.
- Prepare technical documentation, including construction drawings, material specifications, and data sheets.
- Select appropriate materials (conductors, insulation, shielding, jackets, etc.) to meet electrical, thermal, and mechanical performance needs.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards, and regulations.
- Work closely with production, quality, R&D, and procurement teams to ensure manufacturability and cost-effectiveness of cable designs.
- Support customer inquiries and provide technical assistance to the sales and marketing teams.
- Participate in continuous improvement projects to enhance product performance and reduce costs.
- Conduct failure analysis and provide engineering solutions for field or production issues.
- Maintain design records and documentation for traceability and future reference.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
- Minimum 3–5 years of proven experience in cable design within the wire and cable industry (Power, Control, Instrumentation, Telecom, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of relevant standards such as IEC, BS, ASTM, UL, NEC, or ISO.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and cable design tools.
- Understanding of materials used in cable manufacturing: copper/aluminum conductors, XLPE, PVC, LSZH, shielding, armoring, etc.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently or within a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP).
- Knowledge of testing procedures and quality standards in the cable industry.
- Familiarity with flame retardant, fire-resistant, or high-voltage cable designs.
- Exposure to lean manufacturing or Six Sigma principles.
