Technical Documentation Specialist

Amentum is seeking a dynamic Business Management & System Support Specialist to provide critical business management, administrative, and operational support within the R&D Safety Analysis and Review System (SARS) group at the Department of Energy's (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL). This pivotal role drives efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance of R&D initiatives across NETL sites by expertly managing and optimizing critical business systems and processes.

You will be the central expert for system administration and user assistance, leveraging its Microsoft Power Platform foundation within the secure Microsoft Government Community Cloud (GCC) environment. Your expertise will streamline business processes, manage system integrity, provide essential administrative support, and transform data into actionable insights to ensure seamless R&D operations. This highly organized and responsive role requires close collaboration with federal and contract researchers, engineers, and ES&H professionals, reporting directly to the R&D SARS Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Administration & User Support: Administer and provide advanced user support for critical business systems, including maintenance, modifications (e.g., notifications, user accounts, workflows), and prompt error resolution. Ensure precise data capture and maintain electronic R&D SARS records.
  • Operational & Administrative Excellence: Manage essential administrative functions for the SARS group, including PPE and lab coat distribution, and support general R&D maintenance.
  • Data-Driven Optimization & Performance Monitoring: Utilize Power BI to develop comprehensive reports and interactive dashboards for system metrics, user support trends, and compliance data. Apply SQL and data modeling for insights, process measurement, and strategic decision support. Develop custom solutions with Microsoft Power Apps to automate workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Leverage data analytics to continuously monitor key team functions and capabilities, such as project schedules, budget adherence, and work management activities. Communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to stakeholders to inform strategic decisions and drive performance optimization.
  • Technical Document Control & Compliance: Implement and maintain robust document control procedures and systems for R&D processes and technical documentation. This includes managing the creation, review, revision, distribution, and archiving of critical technical documents, ensuring strict adherence to NETL policies, regulatory standards, and version control.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in business management support, system administration, or a similar operational role, demonstrating strong organizational and administrative capabilities.
  • Direct experience providing user support for complex technical systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint (database access, reporting, queries).
  • Expertise in Power BI for data visualization, reporting, and analysis.
  • Experience with SQL for data manipulation and data modeling.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Power Apps for workflow automation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft GCC and Office 365 environments.
  • Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical document control and management, including version control, recordkeeping, and ensuring compliance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • US Citizen, Associates Degree, 3 years of experience
  • Proven experience in business management support, system administration, or a similar operational role, with strong administrative and organizational skills.
  • Direct experience providing user support for complex technical systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft SharePoint (database access, reporting, queries).
  • Proficiency in Power BI for data visualization, report building, and in-depth data analysis.
  • Experience with SQL for data extraction/manipulation and understanding of data modeling.
  • Experience with or aptitude to rapidly learn Microsoft Power Apps for workflow automation.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft GCC and Office 365 environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail, problem-solving abilities and abilities to provide user support in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, interdisciplinary team.

Compensation Details:

$60,000
