Overview
The Department of Justice, United States Attorney’s Office (USAO), Western District of Louisiana requires contractor support services to provide Technical Writer II support services in support of Public Affairs Office (PAO) operations. The Public Affairs Office is responsible for coordinating communications and outreach efforts that support the USAO’s mission and promote public understanding of Department of Justice programs, initiatives, and activities. These efforts require professional written communications that accurately convey complex legal and organizational information to a variety of audiences. As a Technical Writer supporting the Public Affairs Office (PAO), the Contractor shall draft, edit, and coordinate written communications and informational materials for Government use to support USAO outreach, public information, and related PAO activities consistent with Department of Justice (DOJ) and USAO policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assists staff members with the media and public affairs portfolios of the United States Attorney’s Office (USAO).
  • Assists with the coordination of external communications and drafts and suggests edits for press releases.
  • Collects and analyzes information requests from the news media and the public on the organization’s programs and prepares response recommendations for USAO use. Response drafts shall be in written form, often requiring detailed explanations of positive or negative comments made on the organization’s activities or performance in a particular situation.
  • Translates highly complex legal technical information into everyday language for USAO personnel use in addressing a wide variety of audiences.
  • Prepares written communications and documents for the USAO’s use to utilize in its efforts to inform and educate stakeholders on USAO programs, activities, and services.
  • Assists staff members with the coordination of community and various other District programs and projects.
  • Prepares and edits other pamphlets, handouts or documents which require technical writing.
  • Analyzes, interprets and recommends new, innovative communication solutions for the District, including the management of authorized social media accounts.
  • Provides expertise related to emerging trends and technology in the writing industry.

Experience

  • Proven experience in technical writing or a related field with a strong portfolio of technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas into simple language for diverse audiences.
  • Be able to work with internet software programs for uploading information.
  • Have a working knowledge and understanding of the media process and deadlines.
  • Good judgment and discretion, ability to interact and participate effectively in a variety of settings.
  • Have a four-year undergraduate degree. A degree in English, journalism, communications or a related field is preferred, but not required.

Pay: $32.50 - $39.14 per hour
