Transportation Coordinator

Job Purpose

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for supporting the logistical needs of Alpert & Alpert by coordinating the movement of inbound and outbound shipments. This role focuses on container shipments, 3rd-party brokered services, and general dispatch support to ensure material moves efficiently and cost-effectively. As key Operations support, the Transportation Coordinator ensures documentation compliance and proactive issue resolution for all transportation modes.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, book, dispatch, and track inbound and outbound shipments across various transportation modes, with a primary focus on truck and ocean freight.
  • Coordinate daily logistics tasks to support container shipments and specialized 3rd-party brokered services.
  • Provide essential dispatch support as operational needs are defined during the Long Beach facility integration.
  • Interface with freight brokers and carriers to negotiate shipping rates and secure necessary capacity.
  • Analyze transportation data to identify cost-effective routing options that maintain high service quality and delivery speed.
  • Support the Logistics and Dispatch leadership in executing broader national logistics strategies.
  • Proactively monitor shipments in transit to identify and address potential delays, damage, or routing hurdles.
  • Maintain consistent communication with internal stakeholders to provide status updates and resolve logistical bottlenecks.
  • Prepare and manage critical shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading (BOL), customs paperwork, and invoices.
  • Ensure all transportation activities comply with company internal needs and external regulatory requirements.
  • Other tasks as needed.


Qualifications Include:

  • Experience: Proven track record of success in administrative or operational roles; experience in the scrap metal or recycling industry is a plus.
  • Logistics Knowledge: Understanding of trucking and ocean freight (container) shipments.
  • Detail Oriented: High level of accuracy in managing complex documentation and multi-step scheduling.
  • Communication: Ability to keep stakeholders informed and collaborate effectively with 3rd-party carriers and internal teams.
  • Problem Solving: A proactive approach to addressing transit delays and resolving shipping issues.


Working conditions

Work occurs mainly in an indoor office setting.


Physical requirements

This job requires the ability to sit for extended periods, use a computer/telephone for the majority of the workday, and occasionally move throughout the yard facility for coordination purposes.
