Veterinary Assistant/Receptionist

Animal Health Center Of Sherman is looking for a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. We are committed to providing high-quality veterinary care while creating a welcoming, supportive environment for both our clients and our staff.

Responsibilities

  • Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and procedures.
  • Safely restrain and handle dogs, cats, and other companion animals.
  • Prepare exam rooms and treatment areas for appointments and procedures.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain hospital equipment and workspaces.
  • Monitor, feed, and care for hospitalized patients.
  • Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
  • Collect laboratory samples and assist with diagnostic testing.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Stock supplies and help maintain inventory.
  • Educate clients on basic pet care and post-treatment instructions.
  • Assist with reception duties, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and checking clients in and out when needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous veterinary assistant, kennel, or animal care experience is preferred but not required—we are willing to train the right candidate.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
  • Comfortable handling animals of all sizes and temperaments.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
  • Availability to work every other weekend on a rotating schedule.
