Schedule: Regular, 12 mo., FT, M-F 8am-5pm (occasional nights and weekends)
The Visual Media Manager oversees EMU’s photography and video production needs to support the strategic goals of the university, including those related to undergraduate and graduate enrollment, university advancement, and community outreach. The work involves the day-to-day management of photo and video projects and requests, including gathering footage (shooting or assigning), coordinating with clients, and storing files.
Oversee gathering of still photography as video production for university needs, including event coverage and shoots for enrollment/advancement marketing purposes.
Manage and edit video production, posting and distribution, working with the Director of Marketing & Communications to set strategic priorities and with the Marketing & Communications team to post and distribute videos; evaluate the effectiveness of videos through qualitative and quantitative analyses.
Collaborate with Marketing & Communications team and internal clients in Admissions, Graduate Professional Recruitment, Advancement, and others, to fulfill photo and video requests.
Oversee image management and storage on Canto.
Oversee and implement FERPA regulations, copyright law, and photo/video release policies.
Supervise part time photographers/videographers.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Ability to capture compelling, expressive photos and to create moving, meaningful video content (shooting, editing and scriptwriting); ability to work with student workers and freelancers to produce high-quality output.
Ability to effectively express ideas clearly both orally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with all constituencies of a multifaceted community.
Excellent organizational and initiative skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to interpret and analyze information for effective decision-making.
Demonstrated proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Lightroom, Photoshop, Encoder and Premiere); familiarity with Flickr and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and YouTube); ability to learn project management and digital asset management software (Teamwork and Canto).
Expertise in operating cameras for still photography and/or video use.
Willingness to adjust schedule as needed to accommodate evening and weekend photo and video assignments.
Ability to comprehend complex information.

Bachelor’s degree in digital media, photography, film/video, journalism, or related field, and a minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in photography and videography. Experience in a higher education or marketing/communications environment is preferred.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and use hands and fingers, to handle, or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and climb or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee must occasionally travel to meetings and conferences off campus, which may include some overnight travel.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise 1-2 student photographers/videographers per semester.
