Department Summary
The Student Web Content Specialist supports the Well-Being marketing and communications goals by ensuring the website is accurate, engaging, and user-friendly for prospective and current students, faculty, and staff. This role involves hands-on experience with content management systems (CMS), digital asset management, and web best practices including SEO and accessibility. The specialist will collaborate with the larger marketing team to implement content strategies and maintain brand consistency across all digital platforms.
Key Responsibilities
  • Website Content Management: Use the university’s Content Management System (e.g., WordPress, Drupal) to create, edit, and publish new and existing content, including text, images, and other multimedia elements.
  • Quality Assurance & Auditing: Conduct regular website audits to identify and correct broken links, typographical errors, and content inconsistencies. Ensure all content adheres to brand guidelines and style standards.
  • Web Accessibility & SEO: Monitor web pages using tools like WebAIM to ensure compliance with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and apply basic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) principles to improve content visibility and user experience.
  • Digital Asset Management: Assist in curating and organizing digital assets (photos, videos, PDFs) and manage metadata for the digital asset management system.
  • Analytics Support: Assist in pulling website analytics reports using tools such as Google Analytics (GA4) to inform content decisions and track performance metrics.
  • Collaboration & Support: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including design and editorial staff, and provide support and guidance to other campus content contributors on website use and content development best practices.

Job Profile
Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Provides administrative support in an office setting, including tasks such as answering phones and emails, responding to customer inquiries, writing communications, and supporting staff with day-to-day operations.

Level Summary
Performs basic tasks and assists with administrative or operational duties under supervision. Roles are entry-level and aimed at providing exposure to workplace environments.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Limited supervisory responsibilities. May supervise other student workers.

Fiscal Responsibilities:
No budgetary responsibility.

Problem Solving:
Addresses routine, well-defined problems under supervision.

Independence of Action:
Works under close supervision.

Communication and Collaboration:
Communicates primarily with supervisor and peers. Collaborates with team members to accomplish tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled for classes at Ohio University, Hocking College, another post-secondary education institution, or a secondary school during the current semester, immediate previous semester, or immediate upcoming semester. Able to follow instructions and complete tasks within deadlines. Basic knowledge of office software and communication tools. Departments may have specific minimum requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Must be a currently enrolled student in good academic standing, pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Drupal.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Working Condition/Physical Demands:
This role is primarily desk-based and involves extensive use of desktop computers. Occasionally, the job may require travel to attend meetings and programs.
