Workers Compensation Associate Attorney

Job Summary:

  • We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Workers' Compensation Attorney to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in workers' compensation law and a passion for advocating on behalf of TPAs, carriers, and employers. This role involves providing expert legal counsel, representing clients in workers' compensation claims, and ensuring that they receive the compensation and benefits they are entitled to under the law.
  • The firm offers a friendly, collaborative team environment that believes in maintaining a good work-life balance. This position has the option for remote work, so long as the employee is available and responsive during typical business hours and appears to mandatory in-person events. Reasonable billing requirements.

Remote, California, Occasional travel to court as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in workers' compensation claims, including filing petitions, negotiating settlements, and advocating in administrative hearings or court.
  • Manage all aspects of workers' compensation cases from initial consultation to resolution, including gathering evidence, preparing legal documents, submitting reconsiderations, amending depositions, and coordinating with medical professionals.
  • Negotiate with opposing counsel to achieve fair settlements for clients. Advocate effectively on behalf of clients to secure favorable outcomes.
  • Conduct thorough legal research to support case strategies, stay updated on changes in workers' compensation laws, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide legal advice and guidance to clients regarding their rights, the claims process, and potential outcomes. Explain complex legal concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Prepare and review legal documents, including claims, briefs, and appeals. Ensure all paperwork is accurate, timely, and complies with legal standards. Ensure all dictations and billings are conclusive, effective, and timely.
  • Knowledge of lien negotiations, contributions, penalties, etc.
  • Represent clients in administrative hearings, mediation sessions, and, if necessary, court proceedings. Present evidence and arguments persuasively to support client claims.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates on case progress, answer questions, and address any concerns.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license with the California State Bar.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in workers' compensation law or a related legal field.
  • Certification in workers' compensation law or related specialties is a plus.
  • Excellent negotiation and advocacy skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research and case management (LexisNexis a plus).
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a standard office environment, including sitting for extended periods while working on a computer and handling legal documents.
  • Ability to travel to and from court hearings and client meetings, which may involve.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for client consultations, negotiations, and court appearances.
  • Occasional travel may be required for client meetings, court appearances, or professional development.
