Job Description: Mushroom Compost Production Supervisor
Position Overview
The Mushroom Compost Production Supervisor oversees the entire composting process across Phase 1 (bunkers) and Phase 2 (tunnels) to ensure consistent, high-quality compost for button mushroom production. The role requires strong technical understanding of compost biology, environmental controls, machinery operations, and team supervision. The Supervisor ensures daily targets are met, SOPs are followed, and all parameters such as temperature, moisture, aeration, ammonia, and raw material consistency remain within required specifications.

Key Responsibilities
1. Compost Production Management
- Supervise all stages of compost production from raw material preparation to Phase-2 pasteurisation and conditioning.
- Ensure correct ratios of wheat straw, chicken manure, gypsum, water, and supplements according to SOPs.
- Monitor compost temperature profiles, moisture levels, CO₂ and ammonia levels, and address deviations immediately.
- Maintain accurate records of compost batches, input materials, timings, turning schedules, and daily progress.
- Ensure Phase-1 bunkers are filled, watered, mixed, and turned according to the production plan.
- Oversee Phase-2 tunnel loading, pasteurisation, peak-heat, conditioning, cooling, and unloading.
2. Environmental & Process Control
- Monitor heat generation curve during Phase-1 and ensure temperatures reach the desired level
- Monitor variables such as moisture, pH, ammonia levels, Carbon content to ensure the compost is developing as per the required standard
- Prevent compost collapse or structural damage by managing airflow, watering, and turning frequency.
- Supervise tunnel environmental systems (heating coils, fresh air dampers, exhausts, blower pressures).
- Ensure ammonia drops below acceptable levels before compost is released for spawning.
3. Team Leadership & Coordination
- Lead a team of compost workers, loaders, machine operators, and support staff.
- Allocate daily tasks and ensure optimum utilization of manpower.
- Coordinate with the Mushroom Grower, and Production Manager for production planning.
4. Machinery & Equipment Oversight
- Ensure proper functioning of the loader, blower systems, aeration floors, watering systems, and bunker doors.
- Plan and supervise minor repairs and preventive maintenance with the engineering team.
- Ensure equipment such as thermometers, moisture meters, Gastec pumps, and probes are calibrated and used correctly.
- Maintain strict hygiene to avoid contamination, pests, and anaerobic pockets.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare daily compost production reports, raw material usage logs, and temperature charts.
- Maintain Phase-1 and Phase-2 batch sheets.
- Report issues, delays, equipment failures, or quality concerns immediately.
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure workers follow PPE, safety rules, and compost yard hygiene standards.
- Enforce safe operation of the loader, blowers, electrical systems, and steam/hot air systems.
- Maintain a clean and organized compost yard, tunnels, and raw material area.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelors degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Environmental Science, or related field preferred.
- 3–5 years experience in agriculture or related industry
- Strong understanding of compost biology, thermophilic processes, and environmental control systems.
- Ability to supervise and train a team in a production environment.
- Experience with machinery such as loaders, blowers, and moisture control systems.

Work Schedule & Reporting
- Full-time, on-site role at the compost yard.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Rs90,000.00 - Rs140,000.00 per month
