Position Location: Remote – work virtually anywhere in the United States

Job Summary

Supports operations by managing firm-wide financial performance, communicating results with owners and partners, presenting financial forecasting models, assisting in developing and maintaining the annual budget, overseeing AP, AR, and payroll functions, procuring and maintaining insurance policies, ensuring compliance with annual insurance audits, coordinating with outside accountants for tax preparation and planning, and remitting various taxes including sales & use, property, franchise, and federal income taxes.


Reports directly to the CEO and the Board of Directors, serving as a key member of the executive leadership team for DLB, a rapidly growing professional services firm with 800 employees across 45 states, delivering complex infrastructure, advanced facilities, and data center projects nationwide. This role requires experience with mergers and acquisitions as well as globalization strategies to support the firm’s continued expansion.

Operates with a high degree of autonomy, independently performing day-to-day responsibilities, leading project teams and initiatives of complex scope, coordinating activities of other personnel, and assisting in the development of policies and procedures.


Acts as a strategic financial advisor to firm leadership, providing insights that drive business growth, operational efficiency, and long-term financial strategy. Partners with senior leaders across the organization to identify financial risks and opportunities, align financial planning with organizational objectives, and ensure sustainable profitability.

Communicates and operates in alignment with organizational goals, values, and departmental objectives, fostering a finance function that supports both operational excellence and strategic decision-making.


Essential Functions

Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Accounting

Leads all financial operations, including preparation of accurate and timely statements and reports for management, the CEO, the Board, and external stakeholders. Oversees monthly closings, reconciliations, and supporting schedules, ensuring compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. Directs budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning initiatives, analyzing performance and departmental or project profitability to guide capital allocation, risk management, and strategic decisions. Maintains robust financial controls and policies, manages ledgers, intercompany transactions, accounts payable and receivable, payroll, and fixed assets, and oversees audits, tax filings, and compliance. Provides actionable insights to leadership to support sustainable growth, mergers and acquisitions, and global expansion strategies.


AI & Agentic Automation

Champions the integration of AI and agentic automation to optimize core finance processes, including procure-to-pay, order-to-cash, and financial close. Leverages generative AI and advanced analytics to enhance reporting accuracy, strengthen compliance monitoring, and provide predictive insights for executive decision-making. Leads the cultural and operational transformation toward a data-first, AI-augmented finance organization, equipping the team with the tools and skills needed to thrive in a technology-driven environment.


Leadership & Staff Management

Builds, mentors, and develops a high-performing finance and accounting team, fostering professional growth, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement. Provides guidance and oversight to ensure timely and accurate financial operations, promotes knowledge sharing, and drives operational excellence. Acts as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and Board, contributing to financial strategy, operational efficiency, and enterprise-wide risk management.


Organizational Development & Continuous Improvement

Drives the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and systems that enhance efficiency, strengthen internal controls, and improve financial operations across the firm. Partners with leaders across departments to align financial strategy with operational priorities, improve decision-making, and support growth initiatives. Ensures completion of deliverables on time and within budget while continuously seeking opportunities to optimize processes, systems, and financial performance.

Position Requirements (Advanced level for all the following)

  • Working knowledge of general accounting / finance body of knowledge
  • Knowledge of GAAP and their application to a variety of accounting transactions and problems
  • Working knowledge of relevant local, state and federal laws required
  • Knowledge of financial research and report preparation methods and techniques as well as the ability to prepare a variety of complex financial statements, reports and analyses
  • Must possess strong accounts payable and receivable knowledge to function independently and collaboratively with co-workers

  • Frequently required to remain in a stationary position
  • Frequently moving through office, facility and other environments

Travel / Relocation Requirements

  • Up to 10%, this may include travel to any or all 50 US states
  • Travel is defined as physically leaving home on behalf of business activities including but not limited to client sites, meetings with other employees, meeting for business development purposes, running errands on behalf of the business, attending industry conferences, etc.


Education / Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or finance
  • CMA or CPA required

PLUS

  • Minimum of 13 years of experience possessing high degree of leadership, team building and motivational skills with experience at the management accounting level at an engineering firm or similar industry using ERP system (Deltek VantagePoint a plus)
