Job Summary

The civil cost estimator will assist the estimation team in preparing accurate cost projections and

financial analyses for construction projects. The ideal candidate has a strong educational background

in civil engineering, excellent numerical skills, and a proactive attitude towards learning. This entry

level role provides hands-on experience in quantity surveying and cost control.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in cost estimation: Help prepare detailed cost estimates for civil engineering projects

by gathering data on materials, labor, and equipment.

• Perform quantity takeoffs: Conduct precise measurements and calculations from blueprints,

drawings, and project specifications to determine the required quantities of materials.

• Gather cost data: Research and collect up-to-date pricing information from suppliers,

vendors, and subcontractors.

• Support bid preparation: Assist in compiling documentation for bid proposals, ensuring all

cost aspects align with project requirements and deadlines.

• Maintain project records: Organize and maintain records of estimates, bids, and actual costs

for current and past projects.

• Collaborate with teams: Work closely with senior estimators, project managers, and

engineers to ensure all project requirements are understood and accurately reflected in

estimates.

• Contribute to cost analysis: Support the team in performing initial rate analysis and

identifying potential cost-saving opportunities.

• Learn industry standards: Become familiar with industry regulations, standards (e.g., CPWD),

and best practices in cost estimation.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Education: Bachelor's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related

field.

• Technical skills:

o Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.

o Basic knowledge of AutoCAD for reading and interpreting civil and architectural

drawings.

o Willingness to learn and use specialized estimation software like Bluebeam,

PlanSwift, or CostX.

• Soft skills:

o Numerical and analytical skills: High attention to detail and accuracy in calculations.

o Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with

team members and vendors.

o Attention to detail: Meticulous approach to reviewing project plans and

specifications.

o Problem-solving: A proactive approach to identifying potential issues and finding

solutions.

o Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively and learn from experienced professionals
