Job Summary:
The Commis – Bakery & Pastry is responsible for assisting in the preparation, baking, and presentation of bread, pastries, desserts, and other baked goods. The role supports the pastry team in ensuring high-quality products, consistency, and adherence to hygiene and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the preparation and baking of bread, cakes, pastries, and desserts under the supervision of senior chefs.
- Follow standardized recipes and instructions to ensure product consistency.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and rotation of ingredients to minimize wastage.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the pastry and bakery section.
- Support the Pastry Chef in menu preparation, mise-en-place, and daily production.
- Operate bakery and pastry equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
- Assist in stock control by monitoring ingredients and reporting shortages.
- Contribute to innovation by learning and developing new pastry and bakery techniques.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Diploma/Certificate in Culinary Arts, specializing in Pastry & Bakery, preferred.
- Prior experience as a Commis in bakery/pastry (internship or 1–2 years) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of basic baking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
- Strong team spirit and willingness to learn from senior chefs.
- Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays as required.
