Job Overview

The Data Center Facility Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and security of critical infrastructure within a data center. This includes managing power, cooling, and environmental systems to ensure continuous uptime and optimal performance. The role requires strong technical expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, leadership skills, and a commitment to safety and compliance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Facility Operations & Maintenance
  • Ensure 24/7 operation and reliability of critical infrastructure (power, cooling, HVAC, UPS, generators).
  • Monitor environmental controls (temperature, humidity) and maintain optimal conditions.
  • Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for all facility systems.
  • Vendor & Contractor Management
  • Coordinate with vendors for equipment servicing, upgrades, and emergency repairs.
  • Manage contracts and ensure compliance with service-level agreements.
  • Compliance & Safety
  • Enforce adherence to industry standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier classifications).
  • Maintain compliance with local regulations and company policies.
  • Implement and monitor safety protocols for staff and contractors.
  • Disaster Recovery & Risk Management
  • Develop and maintain disaster recovery and emergency response plans.
  • Conduct regular drills and audits to ensure readiness.
  • Budget & Reporting
  • Prepare and manage facility budgets, including capital expenditures.
  • Reporting Responsibilities:
  • Provide regular reports on facility performance, uptime, and incidents.
  • Track and report energy consumption, capacity utilization, and efficiency metrics.
  • Deliver monthly and quarterly reports to senior management on operational status, risks, and improvement plans.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities, compliance audits, and vendor performance.
  • Team Leadership
  • Supervise technical staff and ensure proper training.
  • Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
  • Certifications: PMP, CDCP (Certified Data Center Professional), or CDFM preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in data center facility operations or critical infrastructure management.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Electrical systems (switchgear, UPS, generators)
  • Mechanical systems (HVAC, chillers, cooling towers)
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
